Canon and Nikon raising prices on select cameras and lenses by up to $1,000. How will this affect you, if at all ?

And they do.
Yup and I think pricing high isn't a bad thing to do.
Let them keep raising prices. I will continue to buy used equipment from KEH OR MPB. I get good quality and and have never had a problem and save a nice bit of change.

If everybody bought only used equipment, they'd go out of business, and there would be no more advancement in their products. Someone has to buy what they're making new.

Any way if the manufacturers increase prices he would be paying new prices for used equipment. Yes manufacturers raising price would cost us more if we are going to buy equipment new or used. But I don't blame them, I think now it does cost more to make the cameras and lenses.

I agree with you totally in not blaming them. I guess the point I want to make is that price increases make people think harder about buying something. If you need food and the prices are going up, you do whatever it takes to buy food. You may have to modify what you normally buy. Most people don't need a camera. People have to continue to buy new cameras, lenses and accessories to keep these companies in business.

Certainly if I don't have food I would borrow, beg or even steal to get food. But if I don't have money for camera I want I simply don't have it. I don't even settle for a lesser model. But when manufacturers raise prices they carefully consider the consequence. They do think they make more money by raising price.
We have all been spoiled for many years with stable to falling prices. Over time, Canon reduced prices on both cameras and their best L lenses from original list not to mention really good sales from time to time. Now cash is trash.

But what when there isn't enough to prioritize for or against nonessentials? I really prefer to eat - and with a roof over my head!! It's just that there are those who don't have to trifle with such mundane concerns.

Well obviously your priority is food. Poor chap. I hope things pick up for you.
None at all. I use a Fujifilm X-T4.

Other than $, nothing to do with cameras but mention of the vcr made me smile. Bought my first vcr in 1983 and paid $550 (RCA). The remote had a 20 foot long wire and cost an additional $50.
That made me remember my first VCR. It too was priced in the $500 range from Mongomery Ward. It came with that wired "remote" that was really only a pause button!

I'm glad I bought a Nikon D850 during the last Black Friday sale. They offered a $300 discount at that time. It was easy. A local dealer had one in stock. This particular camera has been difficult to find in stock anywhere a few times over the last year or so. B&H and Adorama still list it as being in stock today, but how long will that last? When word of the price increases gets out, people may rush to buy cameras and lenses from the present inventory. One thing mentioned is that if you order something now that is back ordered, you may not get it at the current price if it is actually invoiced after the date of the price increases. This will not apply to the Nikon Z9. The current price will stand.

Doesn’t make sense. If they can’t sell them at the current prices I doubt if people are going to beat a path to their door now that they are threatening to raise prices. I was in retail for many years. Prices are lowered when the merchandise is not selling. And when there is no merchandise available to sell it is called “out of business.”

I’m with you on that one.

It is very likely that we are in the death throes of photography as a consumer industry. Our generation is like "The Last Alaskans" on TV. As Heimo Korth says under the opening credits, "After us, there will be no one."
What will likely remain is a small business-to-business operation similar to the model that Sony is showing us with one or two supplying participants. Pricing will be much higher, supporting the much lower volumes. There may be some sort of direct sales mechanism, making purchase by individuals of the few remaining high-end models by possible.
So, I am making sure that I have what I need for the foreseeable future. There will, of course, be the possibility to purchase on the used market for a while, but as complexity of equipment increases and equipment ages, that becomes progressively a less attractive option for me.
My goal is to make the best of what I have now. I foresee only minor adjustments to equipment owned.
