I concur with TriX. I have gone on many trips with just the XF 18-55 lens and been very happy. It is an excellent all around lens for a reasonable price. Or, you could go with the XF 18-135 for a bit more reach. Both of these lenses will not break the bank and take excellent photos.

I just ordered an X-T4 and am looking for an inexpensive lens to get me started. I can buy a Fujifilm X-fujinar-W f2.8 28 DM from craigslist for $60. Will this lens fit this camera without any adaptors? If not, any recommendations for a starter lens?

I'm not sure what that lens is. Call fujifilm on the phone and ask. As far as I know old Fujinon or other Fujifilm film and early digital camera lenses do not mount let alone auto focus or meter couple on the current X cameras. But only a Fujifilm camera and lens expert would know for sure. I found that the current Fujifilm X lenses even new are less expensive than the relative value or price compared to Nikon, Canon, Sony, and Pentax. So get the correct used lens for your X-T4. That is a top of the line camera! You may be able to use many brands of lens on that MILC with an adapter as you say. But you really want one lens intended for that camera to see it's full potential. Save your pennies if need be. I have done some research on Fuji because I have thought of getting a X-T4 or similar model Fuji camera. Good luck, enjoy.

The 16-80 would make a very versatile lens. For quite a long time the only lens I had was a Nikkor 16-85mm which performed very well. The Fuji lens gets favourable comments and you should be able to get a second hand one for less than $500 quite easily.

Never heard of that lens and not a fan of Craigs List. When you bought the X-T4 you should have got the 18-55mm kit lens. It is an excellent lens to start out with.

Try an XF 18-55 f2.8-f4. This is an excellent general purpose lens. The FF equivalent field of view is 27-82 mm, it’s tack sharp, light and small and can be had for ~$300.

a more expensive alternative that you might want to consider is the 16-80 f4 with an equivalent FOV of 24-120mm (about $600) and if it’s fast enough for you, it may be the ultimate versatile “walk around” lens.

In terms of primes, any of the XF f2 lenses such as the 23, 35 or 50mm can be had for around $300 and all are first rate.

Both of the zooms have stabilization, which will work with the X-T4’s IBIS to provide even more stabilization. All of the lenses, like your body, are weather resistant.
Try an XF 18-55 f2.8-f4. This is an excellent gene... (show quote)

Could not have said it any better.

I'm Lucy and Sally's papa, from Robin Hood country in the UK - long time since I contributed here, but a Fuji X-Series user since 2013.

The X-T4 simply continues a line of excellent APS-C cameras. Most XF lenses will perform well on it. Some decide to use old (and good quality) manual lenses on these cameras - but that needs an adapter and, in many, if not most, cases, "manual focus only". I've tried both and came to an early decision - use lenses designed for the camera.

My pics tend to be within the 35mm to 80mm (full frame) range, and I enjoy having low-light performance, so I have 2 primes - 23mm f1.4 and 56mm f1.2. Coupled with a bit of "zooming with my feet" these two do it for me. What point in having any kit you're not gonna use ?

Your subject interest may demand something different - but, to get you going you might like to look at the XF 23mm f1.4. A couple of pics with this lens attached.

Unless you are already aware .... this is a really good learning YouTube site - and in north America !

You made a good camera decision. Have fun !

You might try one of the new Chinese made manual focus lenes. They can be had in the Fujifilm mount, are made of metal and glass, and are quit good performers by many accounts. They can be bought for less than $100. TT Artisans and 7 Artisans are the brand names.

So very good to see your post, here, craggy ~ and you're still using your Fujifilm kit! Wonderful! I don't often visit this forum, anymore, as it seemed to become a Nicanon/Canikon site (maybe always was?). BTW; this last November I acquired a near-new X-Pro2 (even though I tend to avoid anything with "pro" on the label;^). It will join the X-E2 that was my "gateway drug), purchased in 2016 ~ it's still the most comfortable and fun EDC (every day carry) camera for me.
