I just ordered an X-T4 and am looking for an inexpensive lens to get me started. I can buy a Fujifilm X-fujinar-W f2.8 28 DM from craigslist for $60. Will this lens fit this camera without any adaptors? If not, any recommendations for a starter lens?

I too use the X-T4 camera, and I have used Fujifilm products for about 7 years now. I don’t have any idea about the lens you mentioned. A quick look at Fujifilm’s web site shows nothing in a range of 28 mm. I imagine the “W” you’re seeing may be WR, which is Fuji’s nomenclature for a water resistant lens. You may want to go to Fujifilm.com and then go to products and look at all of the lenses they offer. If it’s on the page for the Fujifilm X products, they will fit your X-T4. If you could get a better description of the lens you’re looking at, or send the web link, I can give you a better idea on your question.

Short of finding an adapter, no, the Fujifilm X-fujinar-W f2.8 28mm you're considering will NOT fit on a Fuji X-T4, or for that matter, any of the other modern X series Fuji mirrorless cameras. That lens was made for an entirely different line of Fujifilm cameras than what you're about to have.

The X-T4 is not an inexpensive camera. While there are a fair and relatively wide choice of lenses available, I'd strongly urge you to find a lens more suited to your camera. The 'lower line' of XC lenses are perfectly adequate, but before long, I'd bet you'll be wishing you'd waited and gone for the much better XF lenses. Not to advocate any one lens over any other, you might find that one of the better bangs for your buck could be had in finding a used Fuji XF 16-80mm, or if you prefer primes, perhaps something along the lines of an XF 23mm R.

In the meantime, get one of the readily available adapters, and get (and use) an inexpensive Nikon or Canon or Pentax or whatever brand lens in the focal length(s) of your choice. They won't autofocus, nor will they 'communicate' with the camera body, but they will work until you get something better.

<EDITED to reflect the boneheaded XC/XF mistake I'd made, as rightly pointed out by TriX. Don't want anyone to read wrong information....)

The lens is 15 yrs. old, so I'm guessing it could be manual focus. I'm thinking now maybe 18-55 f2.8-4 or 50-140 2.8 or 16-55 f2.8. Thanks for your reply.

Try an XF 18-55 f2.8-f4. This is an excellent general purpose lens. The FF equivalent field of view is 27-82 mm, it’s tack sharp, light and small and can be had for ~$300.

a more expensive alternative that you might want to consider is the 16-80 f4 with an equivalent FOV of 24-120mm (about $600) and if it’s fast enough for you, it may be the ultimate versatile “walk around” lens.

In terms of primes, any of the XF f2 lenses such as the 23, 35 or 50mm can be had for around $300 and all are first rate.

Both of the zooms have stabilization, which will work with the X-T4’s IBIS to provide even more stabilization. All of the lenses, like your body, are weather resistant.

It’s the other way - the XCs are the less expensive, lower performance lenses, while the XFS are the more expensive, higher performance lenses.

Right you are TriX. Weird of me to make a mistake like that considering I just got home from shooting Fuji and XF lenses....

(p.s.: I was happy with the XC 16-50mm f3.5-5.6 OIS 2 lens I had (which was my first Fuji lens purchase) before having the opportunity to shoot with a XF 16-55mm f2.8 R LM WR. The difference is like night -vs- day, and not just because the XF is a faster lens, and is why I sold the former and bought the latter.)

Not compatible. It is a 40 year old manual focus lens design intended for use with a film camera.

To Ava'sPapa:
I'll "amen" Tri-X's coaching, here. A mid-range zoom is one of the most useable lenses for the Fujifilm X-mount and the XF 18-55 f2.8-f4 will be difficult to beat, in the $300 price-range. Additional "amens" on the "Fujicron" F/2 primes.

If one wants to be frugal with a manual focus prime, take a look a the old Konica Hexanon AR line ~ especially the 40mm f/1.8 + a simple adapter such as the Fotasy KR-FX.

There is a Fuji 27mm f2.8 pancake. The newest version has an aperture ring. Very sharp and so light. I use it every day.
