I recently bought a Cotton Carrier harness so I would have my hands free while hiking and the camera not dangling loosely around my neck (balance issues). But now the camera strap gets in the way. The brackets on my Pentax are narrow and oblong, and the strap has loops that thread through them. I want something that will let me snap the strap to the camera when I want to just carry it, or unsnap when I have the camera in the CC vest. Any suggestions?

I'm not familiar with the Cotton Carrier harness, but I'm a really big fan of the Peak Design Slide strap. It has "quick connect" releases, so that might be an option for you...

Try putting the camera strap around your neck. It will not be supporting the camera becuz the camera is on your chest and above the point where it would be hanging from the strap. It is not putting any weight nor stress on your neck but is there as a safety strap when you take the camera from the carrier to use it. This has worked well for me.

I have an OLD (45+ years) denim version of this, when cameras came with D-rings. Clip on, clip off.
I took the D-rings off my old camera.
The denim strap is non-slip, so I simply carry the camera high on my chest with the strap cross-shoulder when hiking/walking around. (Left arm through the strap, then over my head. The strap rests on my right shoulder.)

The Cotton Carrier has a safety strap that attaches to your camera. Forget the neck strap. I've had mine for about a year now, never dropped the camera. Best device there is for hauling a camera around.

Great recommendation, zenagain. I also use these connectors on all my cameras including Bronica GS-1.

Check this page. I use the anchor system with my nikon camera strap. The Peak Design & other straps are better than Nikons but, the Anchor system is a breeze to tale on & off. I even have my long lenses set up for them on the bottom of the lens foot when all I want to carry is my camera/lens & nothing else.

Use the peak design quick release for the neck strap.

You have a tether strap to protect the camera from falling to the ground. Put the neck strap in the back pack.

There is also a holster for a belt to carry a second camera. I used to put one on a belt and move it to my back side so it does not get on the way by being on my sides. You can also strap a tripod to your back pack if you want to carry one. This is what I used to do. I can't home much any more, but I still have my vest.

Which CC harness are you using? If it is the same one I use when on my bike or motorcycle, there is a tether strap to keep the camera from swinging around. You don’t need a neck strap. Use a wrist grip instead, so when you remove the camera you can carry it with the wrist strap. Wrist straps are a great invention.

I was a big fan of Peak Design, but found it to be to heavy around my neck or to the side.
I have returned to my Black Rapid that is over 10 years old and really like the way it carries. The only negative is that i have to remove my quick release tripod plate in order to screw in the BR screw to the bottom of the camera. Nothing is perfect!

Look through this web site. I will vouch for the UpStrap. I use them on 5 different camera bodies. They do not slide off, even moderately slippery coats/jackets.

I use this model with the quick release buckles.

Agree with the Peak Design line of equipment. Excellent and allows you to quickly interchange cameras if using 2. Found it invaluable is Africa with a wide angle on one body and tele on another. Not able to change lenses out there.
