I use aftermarket batteries with no issue. I have had AA’s and AAA, and other common batteries go bad and ruin electronics after being unchecked for months on end. But not with camera batteries. I I’m not going to use for a good while, I remove the batteries from the cameras. I try to inspect about once a month on the cameras.

How long has Wasabi been in business? That should say something about their quality. I have both OEM as well as Wasabi which I use in my Pentax K3. Wasabi is every bit as good as my OEM batteries!

My experience is limited, and I know there are people who say don't take a chance, it could ruin an expensive camera, but I did take a chance. First with my Canon 50D. Bought no name batteries for $6 each, they worked great and I couldn't tell a difference from my other Canon batteries. So when I bought a Sony a7iii, I again bought no name batteries with the same results. The first thing I stated was I don't have a lot of experience because that is true and perhaps I just got lucky. But I've always wondered if I just got "lucky" or if the camera companies are just mad at the producers of bargain batteries and have circulated stories of trouble so they can continue to sell their batteries for much more.

Maybe it’s a conspiracy. All the camera manufacturers got together and decided to bad mouth 3rd party batteries

I need to buy an extra battery for a Nikon D750. Battery is EN-EL15 or EN-EL15A. The OEM Nikon battery is quite expensive ($69 at B&H).

There are other suppliers through Amazon that have better prices and are likely good batteries. One is Wasabi (2 for $26) another is a no-name, but highly rated (1 for $17).

Are after-market batteries worth buying? Any recommended brands? Thanks!

I have been using Wasabi for over a year now and I'm satisfied with them. Prices are much better, also

I'm not into the $1000+ cameras so what I say won't probably matter. I have a Canon PowerShot ELPH 360 HS. The battery and charger that came with the camera are both inferior to the PowerTrust batteries and chargers that I also get from Amazon. The Canon batteries are 800 mAh and the first charger that I got about six years ago for an ELPH 340, failed after two years. The PowerTrust batteries are 1200 mAh and therefore last about 1.5 times longer before needing a charge. I bought these from Amazon. Some of these batteries are about five years old and I've never had a problem with a single one.

Take the aftermarket battery specs with a grain of salt. They often overstate their capacity.

The capacity specifications may be accurate, but they may be measured at a load level significantly lower than what the camera actually requires. Battery watt-hour capacity is lower at higher current levels. This is true for just about every battery type, from lead acid to lithium.

I've used 3rd party batteries and my experience is no issues and save a fair amount of money by doing so. I have used Watson and Wasabi and don't see difference between Nikon brand.

Wasabi have been doing their job for two years. I don’t notice any difference between them and my oem.

To summarize this discussion: Some photographers use aftermarket batteries, some don't.

That clearly sums it up!
