This thread got me to revisit the three credit score services that I can use for free whenever I want. One is Transunion using a model called VantageScore 4.0 and another comes from Transunion using a FICO model. There is over a one hundred point difference between the two. The third one is an Experian score that also uses the FICO model and that is over seventy points higher than the other FICO score. If I had more energy I'd order my reports from free credit report and find out where the discrepancy lies, but I don't... have more energy, I mean. Maybe that will help the OP explain his variation?

They all have different parameters, and empasize different aspects of your credit history. Auto financing doesn’t have the same priorities as a mortgage lender. Other factors impact your insurance rates, landlords’ acceptance, dso on and so on ad nauseum. In the end, it’s all a scam perpetrated by all those businesses looking for a way to pick your pocket.

That is not always possible. You can dispute a mistaken debt (someone opens a fraudulent account in your name), which may take months to resolve, but you can’t dispute the weight they give to various inputs. However, I’d add that I have closed and had the merchant close long unused accounts and that’s had a minimal, if any effect, on my FICO score. If you’re seeing big jumps, there may be more to the issue.

These ultra high interest store accounts may not be worth it. You may save the tax up front or a percentage of the sale, but if their payment date falls outside your usual payment schedule and you miss it by a few days to pay the balance, the penalty and interest will offset any gains as a poster above mentioned. If I were going to use one, I’d set up a mechanism to pay it on time, or better yet, pay the balance as soon as you receive the first statement.

Certainly not a matter of either B&H or Adorama----Why not just have a VISA account with a financial firm which will still be in business for lmany years to come---like FIDELITY INVESTMENTS. They use a bank in Missouri---but Fidelity will be around and will not summarily be rejecting cars---nor will online merchants.----

The #1 attraction of using the Payboo card, which can only be used for purchases from B&H, would be the IMMEDIATE rebate of the sales tax. This in combination with free shipping and damn near immediate shipping and delivery, except when your order is placed on or just before Shabat or a Jewish holy day/holiday.
You're not getting that from ANY visa, mastercard, or any other bank card.

My wife and I have 3 accounts with BnH Synchrony. So we had 3 accounts closed, about $20,000 available credit. And my credit rating improved

The OP is accusing B&H of impacting his credit before it has even occurred based on an experience he had a year earlier with Adorama. He is also assuming that the credit card cancellation with Adorama caused his credit to tank and is therefore assuming that the same will happen with B&H. But instead of just posting his concerns over the effect the cancelation might have, he has posted an accusation in the strongest terms that B&H has screwed their credit customers without evidence. For all we know he had poor credit to begin with and something else caused it to tank last year. And there is at this point no evidence that the same thing will happen as a result of the change to B&H's card.

Hi Marty:

You might find it helpful to write your Credit Bureau and explain the situation. I have done this with clients and it does seem to help.
