I have always believed that this web site was for everyone that wanted to submit a photograph and not just for the professional photographer. I'm sure each and every photo posted here is not going to meet everyone approval but surely even the novice photographer is allowed to show their work without being shown the door. It's a learning process and I think we all probably went through it and if we're lucky we're still learning. I know I learn something every time I log onto Ugly Hedgehog .

I had one person on FB "friend me" because she liked my photos.
Much later I posted something in general that obviously she couldn't handle, must have hurt her feelings.
She "yelled" at me then said "By the way your photos suck.".
Some people are still so childish.
I didn't need her crap so I blocked her.

Just my humble opinion. UHH has people covering the entire range of experience and ability. From the complete "newbie" who's just shot a few pics with his /her new camera, (after reading the "quick start guide") and is blown away by how great they look, (compared to whatever "camera" was previously used), right the way up to the seasoned professional photographer who's been shooting for 50+ years, and really doesn't have much left to learn. I think the "gallery" is a place that anyone should be able to post pictures that they are happy with or proud of, without the fear of criticism or ridicule, even if to some they may appear below par and in need of improvement. When people are just embarking in a new "hobby", positive reinforcement is what they need to keep going, and they will naturally want to get better at it. If they see too many comments saying what's wrong with whatever it was that they were happy with, some would start to think that this endeavor is too much for them, and maybe get disheartened and give up before they've even really begun. Some of the hogs need to realize that there are some here that are just starting out on their journey, and all they need right now is encouragement. On the other hand, once these "amateur" photographers start to understand their equipment, and techniques used to make truly good pictures then they can choose to post their images in a section where Critique (good and bad), and advice is wanted and expected. In that section, no one should want or expect constant "pats on the back" or "attaboys", for pictures that don't warrant it. That is the place where all the faults and misunderstandings can and should be pointed out, and a great place to learn and improve. So there you go, like I said, just my thoughts and humble opinion, and perhaps I'm wrong, (wouldn't be the first time). Stay safe and have a great day all.
