The Salton Sea was created by accident in 1905 when water from the Colorado River spilled out of an irrigation system. The lake grew over the next two years until workers were able to staunch the massive flow. Now it is a landscape for forgotten dreams and abandoned homes.

I used to go there when I was a child in the 60’s. It is sad to see it now. I remember when it still had water in it.Sad!

It still does have water in it, just not as much.

It really is. I am told the really interesting abandoned places are on the far (east) shore of the sea. It takes a 14 hr day to drive completely around it, so you would have to stay in Indio and make 4:30 am departure.
