One of our knowledgeable participants here recommended this printer for many good reasons. Nobody has it for sale except at nearly double the standard price. I guess the strangled supply chain has not let more into our country. Any ideas?

Yeah... Wait for it.

Chances are really good there is a container or two full of them on a ship or at the port on the West coast.

A year and a half of pent-up demand, coupled with labor shortages, chip shortages, and a virus that won't go away, has created product shortages, which puts upward pressure on prices. Opportunists always try to take advantage of that. Beware unscrupulous sellers on eBay and Amazon.

As you are the original advisor for this printer, thank you for your further advice.

Unless someone steals a container-load from a rail car in LA.

Sorry. Couldn't help myself.

Well, in the early days of computerdom I would go to those "fairs" where one could buy parts for their computers. I remember buying a HUGE 20 megabyte hard drive for my Kaypro -- literally of the back of a truck. I never asked where the drive came from.

While I'm sure things will get better, it is also possible they just aren't making them now or in the future? I have had two instances recently where something I am interested in is not being made. Appears it is due to workers and or materials, i.e., if you can sell all of one model you can make, why make two or three models. In my case, dealer had no idea when things would change!

I just ordered the ET-8550 from BestBuy and managed to snag the last available one. BUT it is being shipped from another store 1000 miles away. The delivery date is February 3rd.
I hope that the anticipated bad weather isn't going to throw a curveball into the equation.

A little bit of info for the huge 20mb hard drive! That hard drive was probably a 5 inch or so size. The first hard drive I encountered was 5Mb. It was a DEC hard drive where the platter was the size of an lp 33RPM record. Then we expanded to a10Mb drive. I’m not too sure if I should include this but it was hooked up to a dec 11-83 computer that was used for one of the first multiple line optical mail processors in the US Postal service in the 1990’s. I retired in 2007 and I’m sure that things have come a long way since then!

Congrats.
There are no BestBuys near me now, but when I lived near one it seemed they never had what I wanted in stock, no matter how big or small.
