Thanks again, CHG, I really appreciate your time and effort. I have recently been using the matrix metering, but did not use it in the samples I supplied. I am concerned about the exposure tuning as I had no idea what the exposure tuning is all about. Will look in the manual to see how that is done. Now if I could only find a used D500 with low shutter clicks, a verified US model, in good condition, at a fair price, from a reputable seller...........but I digress.

Thank you for your thoughts and encouragement, Thomas. People like Paul are hard to come by these days.

Ever since I bought the camera years ago, it has been plagued with exposure issues. Most of the photos are of my 6 grandchildren involved in their sports programs. I have had to ramp up the exposure setting on the camera most of the time I shoot, especially in low light conditions such as night games of football and indoor basketball. Rather than invest another thousand dollars to buy a used D500, I am opting to send my unit in to a Nikon authorized repair shop. I will be asking the repair shop to not only look into the exposure issue, but also give the camera a cleaning and/or adjustments. My question to all of you is: Where should I send it to be serviced, does it sound like I need an exposure adjustment, and approximately how much should I expect to pay for the service. I live in Northeast PA. Thanks for your time!

I have used the D7100 since it hit the market. It is a poor choice for your night subjects; I doubt that a repair shop will give you much satisfaction. With that many subjects I strongly suggest that you do get the D500. and a fast high quality zoom if you do not have one.
I have improved my take home by knowing my subject, shooting in manual, recognizing a significant change in lighting, and being able to adjust the camera in the dark, but I only do well by taking a lot of pictures and culling the herd at home.

I have read the ads for the 2 D500 that are for sale. One is offered by a person who just joined our group just yesterday. He is selling all of equipment for $1700

The other one has a serial number that begins with the number 6. I think that is a gray market.

The for sale post was made within the past couple of days but he has been a member since February of 2019.

The $1675 was a package price including all the lenses he shows. Two of those lenses have apparently already sold. His price for the camera with a 50mm lens, flash, extra battery and 3rd party book was $1200. That would be everything in the 1st picture.

Check the ad again if interested:

And yes, a Nikon camera serial number that starts with a "6" indicates it was for the European market.

Thanks for the information. I did send the seller of the D500 a pm yesterday. As of now, I have not heard back from them.

If you didn't see this post, have a look at the example image and the discussion of low-light / high ISO and even the 'best' cropped body.

Thanks for the information, Paul. I appreciate all the help you have given me. With all my lenses being DX, I need to stick with the DX camera.

Unfortunately there was at least one other PM to him before yours. I just read a post from the seller in another thread that it was sold and shipped.

I have a 7100, and I have no problems. It is a good camera, the only problem is that it has a very slow buffer. In low light, I use spot meter or manual.
I would try to work on my methods before I upgrade to a new camera. I fear that you will have the same problem.

One thing that I like to use is auto ISO in manual. I got a copy of Topaz Denoise, so I don't worry about high ISO noise. If you are not shooting raw, you should try that, because there is much more information in your photos that you can bring out in raw.
