Great shots Larry. I’ve made a few trips to lock and dam 24 (Clarksville, MO) but have not been able to capture anything close to your images. I’ve quickly learned how difficult BIF is. I’d like to know your settings and gear you used. Perhaps you could post a few of these that are downloadable to view the EXIF data.

Lock and dams 14 & 15 are on the Mississippi by the Quad-Cities. Great eagle spot in the cold winter like this year when the upper river gets frozen over.

They are along the Mississippi River in Iowa. Just google Lock and Dam 14 and you'll see it.

I use Auto ISO and the shutter speed was 1/3200 at F:8. I used a D3s with my 600mmF:4g VR. I also had 21 focus points up. So I would put the circle of focus points on the image (sometimes up to a 100 yards out). In post I crop to a 4x6 in PS6 and I use Topaz AI Denoise & sharpening on each image.

Same settings that I use when I shoot at Conowingo. Great minds think alike.

Great shots. I believe I visited 17 years ago. Two things I recall: 1. Whatever lens you brought, you needed more lens; & 2. It was bone chilling cold when the eagles concentrated below the locks/dams.

Super! Looks like the eagle had a hard time catching the fish. Thanks for posting these, Larry.

I have a Red Head snow suit which is wind and water proof, a pair of Mickey Mouse boots and the Heat Company heat gloves. They have a heat pocket in the liner glove and one the the leather zippered mitten. I can be out in the freezing cold and be as warm as a bug in a rug. The cold does not effect the camera or lens but I had a problem of my breath fogging the eyepiece.
