No one has mentioned 2 big reasons to go to Costa Rica. The coffee and the pineapple. Simply fabulous. Red beans and rice? Not so much.

When we were in Costa Rica in 2003 they insisted the best coffee never left the country, that they absolutely would not export it. Don't know if that was then, or is now, fully accurate. We took a tour of a coffee plantation and it was quite interesting.

[quote=suntouched]I am going to coast side of Costa Rica on March 1 (Tamarindo) for a wedding.

Do you fly into Aeropuerto Tomas Guardia or the little airport next to Tamarindo? If the former, you will get a feel for whether you will want to stay local in Tamarindo or spend time driving.

We took a two week tour all around Costa Rica in 2017 and used the little MePHOTO tripod that I bought from you. It was perfect and just the right size for travel. I took my SX50HS instead of the 5DSR for convenience and would do it again.

There are a lot of “Costa Rica Field Guides” of Birds, Flowers, Mammals and others that you will find in stores there.

There’s lots to do but relaxing and enjoying being alive can work too! We sure had a great time.

Beautiful sunsets... not sure you'll see alot of exotic birds in that area but keep an eye out for howler monkeys in the trees. Lots of lizards as well.

Having never been there before and somewhat limited by wedding activities (no not mine) can anyone tell me of any can't miss photography activities you have personally experienced near by? Mostly interested in beach shots and definitely birds.

I believe Steve Perry is a member of the group. He takes groups to Costa Rica several times a year. You may be sbke to contact him to ask about some spots to go to.

Lots of great replies! Thank you! We will be in Costa Rica for 6 days including arrival day and departure day. We originally were going to be there for 7 days but waited too long to book so only availability where we wanted to stay was for 6 days instead. The rehearsal will take part to all of two days. That leave us to full days to do excursions. If not for the wedding we probably would have never gone to Costa Rica.

There are typically 60 shots you should take but I've taken as many as 500 or more. It's a list of things that start before the wedding with the bride maybe trying on a wedding dress, her mother helping her get to ready on the wedding day and her father helping her out of the car at the wedding. You should also get them placing the rings on each other fingers and of course the kiss and throwing the flowers. Then the reception is also a good place to get all the guest and the first dance, the cutting of the cake, the introduction of the new Mr and Mrs, the toast and whatever you think they might want. Usually they will love any picture you take. Hope this has been of some help and if not the let me know and maybe I can come up with something else. By the way I have been to Costa Rica 10 times but it was for a project and I wasn't able to get out as if I were on vacation. I went to San Jose during Christmas and New Years.
Enjoy your trip, David

Oh no I'm not the photographer for the wedding! Just one of the guests. The groom is my nephew. But thanks for the tips :)

Check out Cotinga Tours, Cotingatours.com. My daughter and her husband, Paco, run this family owned boutique birding company. They are excellent and reasonably priced. Paco was brought up in the rainforests of CR. He is a bird whisperer of the first order.

Enjoy your trip and I hope the wedding goes well. There are so many things to see in that area and I hope your 6 days allows you time to do all the things you want.

I went there a few years ago. My son and his wife had a delayed honeymoon. They took care of the bookings, so I don't know the name of the resort we stayed at. We were near the Pacific coast near the mountains. We took a few day trips from the resort. The people are nice and friendly there and the food is to die for.
