The attached photograph was made at a local community bicycle center where volunteers refurbish bicycles and give them to children who are unable to purchase a new bike. The older gentleman is teaching the young boy how to repair and maintain a bicycle.

It is an interesting photograph, a study of the elderly teaching the young or of concentration. I would have liked the right hand side to be cropped out so that the edge of the photograph was just to the right of the pedal.

Incredible photograph and narrative. One can see the young boy is interested in what he is being taught. It is this passing of information from the old to the young that makes our society work well.

Well I see a couple of interesting things. The "student" has a name tag, and the other thing is the way the bike is held up. Thats a repair stand by Park, but look closer, clamped in the stand is a pipe welded to a pair of Vicegrips, and they are clamping the seat pillar of the bike. The pillar is normally clamped in the Park clamp direct. I assume, this is set the bike lower, a more friendly height for the "apprentice". I've just finished 35 years at the repair stand, but never seen that. Thanks for sharing.

Indeed. Back in 1966 I was that boy. 1980 to 2020 I was that man. And I never forgot Mr B taking time out to help me as a kid, and any kid that showed initiative I was happy to encourage him.

Fantastic image!!!
We learned out of necessity in the School of Hard Knocks, I got my first and only bike for my 14th birthday, gave it to my youngest brother when I got married.
Humanity at it's finest! I love this image! And, I love how it evokes priceless memories for so many (of the above...) people! Sometimes images capture beauty of nature, sometimes of the human spirit. Well done!!
Look at the interest by the boy...terrific capture!!
Excellent human interest image!
I learned how to maintain my bike under the tutelage of my father, a mechanically gifted and self taught 8th grade graduate of the 30’s. If it had gears and moving parts, he could fix it! With no formal training, he would repair our window air conditioner when something wore out or broke - he kept that thing running for 30 years until he and Mom moved to a newer house.
