Beautiful photo. I was hiking there one time in the '80's and actually passed an old guy coming down the trail with dusty old clothes, a revolver on his belt, and leading a burro with his gear on it. No - he wasn't a photographer! After we passed each other, I started wondering...... did I really see that? Was it real?

I really loved hiking there.
Never had a burro but always carried a Ruger Blackhawk with 7 1/2" barrel in 45 Colt hand loaded to magnum pressures (Way beyond safe for a Colt or replica peace maker).

That image is a sterling enticement! Would love to put on the Cresta Hikers, grab the old familiar stick and a lens and make tracks in that place. Suspect you are of the same ilk.

Yes, when I lived in the area I was out nearly every weekend during college and during summer break would disappear for a week or so at a time exploring the desert and mountains of AZ. just that state it would be near impossible to explore all there is to see that is completely different in a lifetime. No need to wander elsewhere for some very unique and exotic locations.
Just climbing the cliffs in Oak Creek Canyon, which I have done for years, and still know of so many areas (side canyons) I have missed even in that relatively small area. Caves, tunnels in the rocks, ruins both pioneer and older etc.

That is what inspired me, to have the low clouds on the mountains themselves.
