What are the pros & cons of using extenders on my Canon 100-400 IS USM Telephoto lens
How many times are you going to post this question?
I'm ignoring the first post.
The AF does not work on a 100-400 when using an extender unless using LiveView.
Other than that, I think it works well.
I am guessing you don't have 1 series Canon body. If you use a taped Canon 1.4X or a Sigma or Tamron 1.4x it will work in bright sunlight. You can get good results with a 1.4x; however I have taken 100's of shots with a Canon 2x and not one is worth saving.
if your local camera store has them in stock, try one out , too many people on this sight have gotten good results to write them off.
I use them both and the combo is good in bright light. The problems is that the largest aperture is f/8 at 560mm so you loose auto focus. That is not a big problem in good light.
hard cold fact...nno matter that once in a while you can get a really great shot.
don't do it...the chance for missing good shots that come out soft on your computer is to great

with respect i have to disagree,i use them on a regular basis and have loads of good pictures, even when i stack 1.5x+2x+2x together.

Thanks for everyones comments on the canon extender! Also sorry for posting to many times, did not realize I was doing so!Guess I'm not perfect!
I'll try to do better next time!!
I have the Canon 100-400 and Canon's 2x extender. With careful manual focusing and a tripod when called for, results are perfect
