Nikon USA is screwing over the third party repair shops (as of 2020 I think). Long story short, they can't get parts directly. They will try to get them, but no promise, so you may need to send it in to Nikon USA.
Kurtz in San Diego is great. Midwest Camera is also very good.
Paul, you are to logical in your thinking.

Actually just like heart, lung or liver I am very afraid that they would mess up my camera while taking it apart. So unless it's definitely need repair I wouldn't want anybody taking it apart.
If the Camera Clinic 56 Easey St, Collingwood VIC Australia
does anything to you cameras and lenses, they are always
literally better than brand new when you get them back.
Getting your gear back from them is better than Xmas.
The techs there are absolute masters.
If you knew them Like I do, it's a special and pleasing occasion going
there with your gear.
My friend has a D700 with 350,000 clicks on it and still going strong . The camera shutters are only tested up to a amount , it does mean they are going to die after that amount.
I agree with others that if it isn't broke, don't fix it. However, I would go with the manufacturer's repair service first. However, if that isn't possible, I had excellent service done by Royal Camera Service, Inc. out of Hanover Park, Illinois. That camera particular camera was a Panasonic Lumix. Panasonic's repair facility, in my first-hand experience, was terrible. They said nothing was wrong with the camera they said they couldn't replicate the issue, which was absolutely false. The camera had gotten soaked and the zoom lens would not stay extended, it would always retract on its own, and I had told them so. Royal replaced whatever the particular failed component was that controlled the lens motor, charged me for it as I always expected they would, and I haven't had an issue with that camera since. Their service was quick and efficient. I will definitely use them again if the need arises. I can't address lens repair because I haven't had them do any lens repair work for me.
what about fixing a Sony?

Would you replace your heart, lungs, or liver simply because you think you're getting old? Or, the similar core functions of your car, like the engine? Or, would you wait for it to fail and decide what makes the most economic sense if / when the failure event does ever occur? Or, would / could you take another simply option and sell before the failure event occurs?
Well I fly sport and aerobatic planes. Yes we replace things just because they may fail. If you look at and aircraft engine the smoh is the amount of time before a major overhaul is needed. Most piston singles are good for 1800 to 2000 hours before the major overhaul is needed. So yes a lot of things are replaced before they break. Just not in cameras in my opinion.
I haven’t had to have a Sony repaired, but I suspect you could call them on the phone and ask them. They will tell you what they can do. I found them to be easy to speak with, no issues.
