You can actually directly compare very large tables of data - vlookup from one table to another, countif to get numbers by type, etc. etc. I'm a bit rusty but can think of all sorts of ways to use and check one list vs. another and total by all sorts of data points. Older versions of Excel, like mine, will do over 65 thousand rows - since 2007 over a Million given a capable computer.

You can use this for your photos?

The simplest way is to run SyncBack between drives. If there is difference in files - files will be copied. You can also run SyncBack in simulation mode without actual copying files. You will get summary with totals for "Files only on Source", "Files only on Destination", "Total files" as a web page. You can expand each line to see actual file names...
Zero effort....

Where do I get this syncBack?
Is is a program I can Google and cost?

Use a backup program that verifies each file as it’s copied. I know that some of them, if not most good ones, do that.

I use this too, set to Mirror the source - it does all the work.

Yes, you need to specify the type of backup. Use Mirror backup with Synchback. I do this all the time.

Yes, I can select the info and details in Windows Explorer (and use / sort the info there) but my computer is old, and somewhat limited, and my version of Excel long unsupported. Apparently pasting 60K rows into a spreadsheet is not possible with my setup. With a newer, more capable computer and software I am certain it can be done, and probably with largely automated Excel functions. Based on comments there is also purpose built software that will do the job.

You can download it at www.2brightsparks.com/downloads.html.
Just find button " Download SyncBackFree V10.1.24.0 ".
The application is free. They have paid versions as well but free one covers everything I need...

I personally use Backup option not Mirror.
If something will be deleted on backup drive the deletion might be mirrored to original...

Most of the discussion has been about removing duplicate photo's. I have just the opposite need. How do I verify all the photo's that I have on my local hard drives are on both my local backup NAS and to the cloud server? All of the programs that I see out there appear to worry about removing files. I need to make sure all the files are backed up. The main problem is that on my NAS, I have them set to be able to find files based on family and on the local based on what took the picture and date.

On my PC I use a program called "Beyond Compare" to compare drives and directories... and files. Don't know if they have nonPC versions. You can probably easily find it on line. The company is "Scooter Software". It is not very expensive and if memory serves, it has a trial period if you wish. It has been a great help to me. I use batch/scripts and robocopy for backup and spot check. If I create a new batch I check the results carefully to make sure I have not made a mistake and left something out.

If you can't find it and want a link... reply and I will help. I hesitate to provide links or look like a salesman.

Check out the free program Synctoy from Microsoft. I use it to back up my photos. It examines my photo directory and the backup target, and copies photos that are new or are have changed.

I needed a new hard drive on my desk top as it was filled so I backed it up on 2 seperate 6T hard drives and got different file sizes every time. Not sure what's being dropped or left out

As this link explains "cluster sizes". Think of as cluster as whole numbers, no fractions allowed. A memo that only has 1 word on page 12 still needs 12 pages.

Just what I was going to suggest. I have Syncback and it is great.

Others have mentioned "Beyond Compare" which displays a file list on a source drive or folder on one side of the screen and on a target drive or folder on the other side. There is a wide range of comparison, exclusion, and inclusion rules. It compares same-named files, ie. "Molly.jpg," side-by-side on both sides. Identical files, newer files, or orphan files can be selected for copying, deleting, renaming, or opened for comparing and editing.

For finding named files I use "everything.exe." The program will display named or partially named files that exist on all connected storage devices. Searching for "Molly" will find every file of any type with "Molly" somewhere in the file name. Searching for "Molly.jpg" lists only .jpg files with "Molly" somewhere in the file name. Or it can be configured to list only instances of "Molly.jpg." The search results can be sorted by file name, folder name or file date. Folders or files listed can be opened for processing. The program uses the operating system file indexes so once the indexes have been loaded, the subsequent search results are instantaneous.

I use a program called "rename.exe" to apply bulk changes to file names.

I can't speak to the availability or features of similar products in the Apple world.
