A couple of days ago I posted my favorite street portraits for 2021. (I hinted that other hogs should show us some of their best efforts of the year…still hoping.)
Here are a few of my favorite sunrises and sunsets taken in 2021. I live on the east side of Manhattan, so sunsets require planning and effort.
The first three are over the East River looking towards the RFK bridge. The top one shows the sun partially eclipsed. The second is a four shot pan.
The fourth is on the Esplanade overlooking the East River.
The last two are in Capitol Reef NP in Utah. The first was taken about 5 to 10 minutes after sunrise (you can see the length of my shadow). The last was taken with the sun very low in the west, barely above the horizon.
C’mon Hogs, let’s see some favorites.

Beautiful photos! My first thought for one of my favorites was also of the partial eclipse at sunrise. Here in Rochester, I was on a pier where the Genesee River meets Lake Ontario. My son and I got photos that made the sun look like bull horns coming up out of the lake.
June 10, 2021, Lake Ontario from Rochester, NY, Nikon D750, Nikon 70-300.
It pays to wake up early, doesn’t it?
