looking thru about 8-10 k photos over the last 60+ years I am ready to give in. Does anyone manufacture a digitalcamera that will put the date ON the photo? or software which will batch process adding the date later from saved data?? It should not take a rocket scientist to write software to add any of the Xsif data to the field of a jpg.. thanks..Ed

This is a link to do exactly what you want in software or in a batch file.

If you are into batch files at all, this one looks interesting. If your not, you can copy and paste the batch file and use it to do what you want.

Just to be clear, are you saying the Iphone has the option to extract the date and time from the EXIF metadata and place the date and time on the actual jpg picture?

Even if it does have the option, the OP wants to add it to jpgs that he's taken in the past, so that would only help with future pics, if he has an Iphone.

I think what he really needs is software that can add the date and time from Exif when the picture is sent to the printer, that way he doesn't need to make new jpgs contaminated with the date and time. The reason date and time is not on the jpgs is because it is easily available digitally. He wants it on his prints I believe. I dunno if there is or isn't software around that does that.

I use batchphoto pro. You have to make sure that the date taken is accurate, not the date scanned. If I do not know the exact date, I just pick an approx date...in this case, my cousin is in the arms of my mom (then 14) sometime probably 1956. You can change font size, colors, box color, etc...I use Lightroom to update the capture date.

Batchphoto does a lot more, such as doing large batches of text overwriting, changing format, add frames, do some editing, etc...almost too much to describe. Cant remember how much it cost.

People who say, "well its in the exif data" are missing the point...having the dates on photos can be invaluable to others who do not have access to that data, know how to get it, etc. My wife is an ancestry nut...and we had a relative who wrote entire stories on the back of photos. An amazing and thoughtful gift to later generations.

You can fiddle with the settings to get the size, font, text box and location that you desire...see attached sample.

I would think an editor would be better than canned software if you really need the date (or other text) on your images. With an editor, you can place the date/text where it will not interfere with anything in the image. Of course you don't want to do this to all your images. If you hang an image on your wall, a date would detract from the artistry (assuming that's why you are hanging it on your wall).

The software I mentioned has ability to place text, date etc anywhere user designates.

I think that most digital cameras have that option built in.

It would be extremely tedious to manually add the date and time to large numbers of photo's as the OP wants to do. BatchPhoto seems to fit the bill for $30 to $50 or the link I provided includes a free batch file that "claims" to add the date and time to groups of files. Slideshow type software often has options to display information like filenames and date and time. I dunno if there is something like that that to send batches of pics just to the printer adding the date and time from EXIF. If not, the above options will allow him to make duplicates, print them, then delete the dups with dates if he wants.
