Since you said this is a new laptop . After you first got windows 10 up and running . The next thing you should of done is gone on settings , updates & security before trying to install any programs . Then rerun the update . Did you do this ? I have some customers that did not do this with new computers and ran into problems . Just asking to eliminate that this could be one of the problems . Tommy

Gerard, my computer man/guy was supposed to do that and when I contacted him he said that it should be there but I couldn't find it and as I wasn't using it I left it until my neighbour's son visited his parents. He is 30 and that is his job working with computers.

I don't know what my computer man did. Is it too late to go to settings, updates & security? Surely, before you run an update, as it was a new Laptop the program had to be installed first.

Adobe is good at supporting current products. Read that to mean customers who have paid for something recently or subscribing to something current get support. It is not fair expect free direct customer support for a 10 year old product. On top of that, how would Adobe keep techs trained on something that old. The code was written long before your operating system arrived.

That said, Adobe still sponsors a free forum of engaged and skilled volunteers that is highly active and not concerned about age. I'm one of them for an Adobe video editing program. My success rate seems to be that I help solve something about every second day.

I agree that in order for Adobe to progress that their programs have to be paid for to keep them updated, but as I am not using it for my living and it is only a hobby, I don't see the need for updating to the latest version just for the sake of doing so.

I am thankful that there are volunteers such as you are willing to give up their time to help other such as myself.

Borrow a disk drive. Somewhere the kid left out a necessary component. Either that, or the component was a feature in the Windows versions 10 years ago and no longer exists in current versions of Windows.

Michael used the disk drive on the main computer as it has a large screen to copy from the disk to the Memory Stick and it still didn't work. There is PSE 11 on that computer as well. Perhaps it would be easier to transfer it across as my Laptop (what is the terminology connected by wi-fi).

You should be trying to install the software onto a new target computer, not trying to copy one 'installation' from one machine to another.

You may be 10 years out of date to get Help from Adobe. A few years ago, they had all their software install files available for licensed customers, that is, customers who created Adobe.com accounts and had their software serial numbers reflected in their profile.

When I go into my own Adobe account today Jan-03, and view my account details and my "Plans and Payments", I can list my registered products. Even today, testing as I write, I can 'download' the two install files related to a Win-32 install for my even older PSE-10 that I use daily, even in 2022. I have these same files saved already to my system from back in 2016 when I transitioned to my current equipment. The file sizes match exactly to what I have saved and installed.

If you have PSE-11 purchased and registered in your Adobe account, you probably can do the same to obtain the install files.

Thank you for your time.

I purchased mine from Amazon and still have the box.

My copy is probably in the saved backed up files that were backed up and saved.

As the UK is going through dealing with the new COVID variant and we are not supposed to be meeting up unnecessarily, I will wait a while before contacting Gerard my computer man to sort it out for me.

In your downtime, you might see if you can find the original install media and serial number. Then, see if you can get that s/n into your Adobe profile via a chat with Adobe at Adobe.com. And then, see if you can get the download files from Adobe as those will have all the final updates to the software before it was discontinued in 2012.

Thank you for your response.

I have just phoned Adobe and was advised to go to community.adobe.com as PSE11 is no longer supported by Adobe so it seems that I will have to work my way through the links that were already given here and see how I get on. We are 6 hrs ahead of you and it is getting late now.

Make sure you're diagnosing the important and ignoring the unimportant. Personally, I would look only at issues resulting from software installed from official installation media. Trying to diagnose issues from copying already-installed software to a new machine seems like a task with 0% probability of success. Getting the s/n installed into your Adobe profile now 10+ years later might too be low probability. But, if you can get the two official install files (for Windows), you probably can get the software to work.

If the software came on a CD or DVD then it's better to install it with the disk that is in a drive connected to the computer you want to install the software on. Copy from disk to a thumb drive then install often doesn't work.

On the other hand, it is on my computer/desktop which is used for my serious photography meaning it has a larger screen and any photos for the club is done on that. Perhaps someone would give instructions on how to copy PSE11 from there on to a Memory Stick and then on to the Laptop, bearing in mind that I am not a teenager and is a senior as is referred to in the USA instead of being old.

Purchase a portable dvd player. Probably find one a little cheaper than the sale price of the Elements 2022 unless you can borrow one. That still doesn't guarantee it will work but...

THIS! I just installed Elements 11 on Windows 10 but did it from the disk, not computer to computer. It works fine.

I don't think you will be able to copy the program from one computer to another. Software has hooks in the registry, etc. which you won't have. Decades ago it was easier as few changes to other files were made, not so anymore, coping not same as installing.

Photoshop Elements 2022 is on sale 30% off through today for $70 US. It's significantly upgraded from PSE 11 and will likely run faster/better on your new computer.

Yes, and Photoshop Elements 11 dates all the way back to September of 2012! It is not likely to run properly on new computers, especially if they have Windows 11 on them. And of course, PsE 11 won't run on any currently-supported version of MacOS (10.15 and higher), as they are exclusively 64-bit systems.

We see this same sort of dilemma presented here every now and then. Frankly, you bought a 2021 computer, and you deserve to reap the benefits of it by running current software on it.

PsE 2022 is not subscription software. It's very inexpensive and reasonably powerful. The only alternative I'd buy is Serif Affinity Photo, just a little less expensive. But it has an entirely different human interface.
