My favorite foul up is! While traveling in Europe back in the 1990’s I would take pictures and when the roll was done I would rewind it and not rewind it all the way into the cartridge. So I ended up with a couple of rolls of film that were double exposed! Imagine having photos of scenes that you probably never see again that were 2 photos superimposed on each other! All because not having the roll marked as used! Oh well! It was fun anyway! We did get to see some of it again!
The reason we were there was it was my older Son’s 21st. Birthday and he’d always wanted to see Germany so we took a driving tour all over Europe. It was fun!

Traveling 8 hours to do a panoramic photoshoot only to discover I left my prime lens at home. No where to rent one either. Golden hour lost out to using my trusty 28-300 zoom. Got a shot...but not THE shot. Gives me reason to go back to Virginia City, Nevada for another try. Love that place. Its haunting.

My favorite dumb mistake is....

Mine is buying ny first camera. Now I have thousands of dollers worth of equipment sitting around in my home office. And AT 91, i haven't taken a picture in ages! I used to take a lot of pics at horseback pointing dog field trials but since I quit riding when I turned 90, that's out. And I ain't able to keep up anymore at walking spaniel trials. One brace is about all I'm good for. As I tell my wife, it's hell to get old but it still beats the alternative! <g> Harry

1) Taking a six week vacation to Scotland and Ireland with three extra batteries but no charger. Fortunately visited a few people who had the same batteries and chargers.
2) Formal wedding shots with a 120 camera. Unexposed film in my left pocket. Exposed rolls in the right pocket, the pocket with the hole. Four rolls of the posed formal shots just disappeared. They never turned up. Couple didn't last a year so didn't really need those long term memories anyway. (I tell myself)
3) "This jury rigged camera strap will be alright." Wrong. Camera bounced down a long cement stairs, shedding parts with each bounce. That was the last day of my first real camera.

OK, I’ll bite. Not watching to see if the takeup spool is actually rotating when I wind off the leader on a film camera.

I was excited about a beautiful frosty morning with the blue sky and sun shine on all the trees. The frost looked like white fur on each limb. When I walked outside and took the lens cap off I noticed a small piece of lint on the lens so I blew the lint off and steamed up the lens quickly turning clean glass to frost covered. End of shoot !

Telling the couple was bad. She was disappointed but he was livid. Maybe his reaction was why they didn’t last.

I will start.

My favorite dumb mistake is setting a shutter timer then NOT immediately resetting it back to normal mode. Invariably next shot or next time I use the camera, I'm wondering what the heck is wrong with my camera and furiously stabbing at the shutter button then click. DOH!!! And having missed the decisive moment, I then set about resetting the shutter to normal mode.

Go ahead. Laugh.

And share your favorite mistakes so we can also laugh.

That's mine also, when using an ir release need to set the camera to 10 second/remote invariably forget to reset back to regular release.

The first year I shot any sports, in 2014, I was using just one camera and was at the United Soccer League championship game during Sacramento's first season. I had an extra card, but with a few minutes left and Sacramento comfortably ahead, my card, which I had forgotten to clear from a playoff game before, filled up. No problem, I had an extra. But I hadn't used it before and it wouldn't format, so I was forced to get all of the celebration shots with an iPhone 4. Ugh, could have been worse, I guess, but I learned several lessons that night that I've never repeated.

Mine was soon after getting my 150-600 mm zoom, and getting out to moose country in Wyoming, seeing our first moose ever in the wild. About 20 shots later, moving locations, suddenly my camera and lens fell out of my gimbal and hit lens first on the pavement. It shattered the skylight filter- I had removed the lens shade because it was near dark already. The filter glass took ours to remove, but once done everything was fine. I had neglected to tighten the clamping screw enough on the mounting plate. Now I never take that lens hood off, and always double check the tightness of the mounting plate.

Showing up for a shoot with 3 (three) dead batteries. The laughter heard around the world. Forgetting to reset the white balance. Changing cameras and forgetting how to set up the newer one up. ...and the list goes on, and on, etc.
