Has anyone charged their battery while inside the camera? If so what did you use other than the Canon $190 option?

Huh, I have never charged a battery in a camera - I own extra batteries so I can use the camera while batteries charge.

Me either, that is why I asked. It seems when you are out you can charge the battery with a portable charger. When you are at home you can charge with a USB PD charger. I am looking for recommendations besides the $190 Canon option.

I have a Canon EOS R and charge it with battery in camera using my Apple MacBook USB C charger and lead. Works a treat and the Canon battery only takes what it needs.

I’ve always used Wasabi USB chargers. Verrrry cheap from B&H and Blue Nook. My gear uses about 8 different batteries.

I'm able to charge 2 batteries in my EOS R's battery grip through the USB-C port on the grip. I'm unsure of the battery required on the EOS R6 or the configuration but to have this happen on the EOS R, I can only charge LP-E6N batteries in this manner and they have to be authentic Canon batteries. I was lucky enough to have the PD-E1 included with the grip. Sadly the LP-E6N batteries are now discontinued.

If I didn't have the charger, I'd use the standard Canon LC-E6 battery charger. I don't think it's worth the $190.00 personally for the AC adapter. It charges each battery separately so there's no gain in the time factor, just a little convenience.

Ah! You mean charging the battery. I thought maybe you meant charging the camera rather than paying cash.

I would be afraid to charge my batteries in my camera. To me you are exposing your camera to an external power source that is not necessary. Battery charges are fine. I take out a low battery put it in the charger and put a fresh one in the camera and are ready to go.

That makes sense but I would rather (and do) carry extra batteries.

I have the R6 and don't quite understand why you would need or want to charge in camera. Looks like another accessory that is meant to extract more dollars from one's bank account.

Charging in Camera with a (now everyday) USB C charger avoids the need for an expensive and extra dedicated charger. So in effect less things to have around or when travelling. Simply using the same charger for phone, iPad and computer.

I suppose you're right if you can charge it in the car like a cellphone, but I've acquired several chargers over the years, I have one in every room. I find it easier to carry extra batteries in my pocket for those times I forget to plug it in the car.

Where did you get your external power pack. I often go to a cabin in the woods where there is no electricity and need to charge camera batteries.

I have charged both an R and an R5 with a solar powered external power pack while on a 19 day trip in the back country of Isle Royale NP, no other charging options available in the wilderness. Worked very well. Charged batteries in camera with a usb cable multiple times with zero problems.
