I shoot sports and I forgot which card should be set up in camera to be my primary card. XQD or SD card. I shoot with a D4 and D500. My grandson was fooling around with my camera and hit a bunch of buttons and I can't remember which is right.

Jules, the QXD card is the faster of the two, probably around 400MB/sec. As such, that's the one I use for my primary.

QXD cards are faster than SD cards and better suited to sports/action where you're taking bursts of pictures and you want the camera to write to a card quickly. They won't fit in the same reader as an SD card.

...make your XQD card the primary (this is for the D500, which has an XQD and an SD, more than the D4 which has two XQD's). On my D5 my primary is the first slot. The vII SD's out there (they have two rows of contacts on the backside of the card) are pretty quick at 250 mbs, so I use one of them for my second slot on the D500.

First and most important thing is, Teach your grandson not to mess with things that don't belong to him!!!

Jules, there is no right way. IMHO, as many others pointed out, I would use your faster cards as primary. In my case it's easy as I don't even have any SD cards! Keep your cameras AWAY from your grandson! Happy New Year to ALL!

I agree that you will probably do better with the XQD card as your primary/raw file destination. But it depends on the length of the bursts you shoot. If your continuous bursts do not exceed the buffer capacity, and if they don't repeat often, you could choose to go either way.

The other side of it that isn't funny is not knowing what buttons got pushed. Have fun with that, or reset the camera and start all over.

I have six menu settings checklists for my most common situations. They save my tail every time I follow them.
