With word of the release of the Canon R3, I was very excited about this new camera and as soon as I could preorder in September I did it thru the Canon website. It's a preorder so they will contact me when it's ready to ship... so the wait begins. As the release of the first preorders was now the end of November I was blown away to receive an email that my Camera would be shipped with 48-72 hours, lining up perfectly with the first day that preorders were going out and I am just an average photographer, not a big name or work for a big corporation who I had always figured got first shots new releases. The email said I would get another email with tracking info and such after the item had shipped but after waiting for several days later I still had not received that email so I called Canon who told me that they see where my order has processed and its a usual delay with high volumes for these 2nd email to sent later sometimes and I didn't receive the camera in a week to call back. I checked my bank account and there it was Canon USA transaction processed and looked on my canon account..yes my order had switched from preorder to processing but after a week of anticipation and worry I still had no camera so I called back. I was told there had been a problem at the warehouse but they had no idea where my camera was...so after speaking to a supervisor.. was told that that the warehouse supply had run out and unfortunately my order was now placed on backorder status. My canon account page still showed it as processing until 2 days later when it did show on backorder. I called again asking how long this backorder would take..they had no idea but with me being a preorder it should be very soon. So I waited and kept checking my email for any word until I again called just before Christmas Eve. Again they had no idea.. so here I go to a supervisor again who looks up my account and sees where my order had been processed but not shipped for some reason. Upon his further research I was told that they had had a system problem and the "system" had canceled my order and made a totally new order with only my Name and the ordered camera..no shipping address...no payment method but a nice new order number...problem was without that info that order could not be processed and he was just now realizing that... So my main order had been canceled and my "new" order was in the dead order bin but on my canon account the original was still being processed and there was no sign of a 2nd order as if nothing was wrong, If I had not kept calling back and finally getting someone who actually looked into my problem I would still be waiting ..forever... for my camera that was never coming. He apologized and was sorry this had happened and he could make me a new order if I wanted to do that. A new order?...what about my place in line for the preorder since September would I get placed at the head of the line to get the next camera off the boat? NO, they can't do that he says..it wouldn't be right and fair to all the other preorders ahead of me..WHAT ABOUT ME !!! So I ask how long did he think it would be and of course, he had no 'official' idea but he told me it most likely would be in excess of 6 months. Already in preorder 4 months and now another 6+ months ...No thanks...I am a Canon shooter with 3 older Canon cameras all purchased thru the canon store and this mismanagement of an order on their part and lack of real concern makes me look at other camera brands now...6 months huh...rumors are that maybe the R1 will be announced near that time frame if I'm still in the market and don't grab a Sony A1 or Nikon Z9 before that...My friends wanted me to share this so everyone will know and beware if you have a preorder...check on it...check on it..until u get it or you may just waiting for an order that will never be sent to you even tho your account says otherwise...Hello Canon?...Anyone know whats going on?...

Get your refund and be thankful you didn't spend $6000 for a 24MP camera anyways. When you get same lust for the EOS R1, go through B&H instead.

Right. I always prefer dealing with a store, rather than the manufacturer.

Breaking this up into paragraphs would have made it easier to read.

It doesn't seem fair that, after they told you they had your camera, and were in the process of shipping, that they penalized you for their mistake. They should have kept you in your original place on the waiting list.

Terrible for sure, but the whole thing sounds a bit odd. They sent you the notice that your camera shipped, and They charged your card. I do understand mistakes can happen, and there could be some additional delay, but I do not see how they could put you to the end of the line.
They may very well be getting jerked around by Canon Japan, or the Shipping intermediary....and just have no clue what to do. I cannot help but think that a store like B &H would have handled it better
It is tough to know for sure, the supply chain is seriously screwed up.

The H... with that, did they remove it from his CC?

I'm a Canon shooter and although I doubt that I'll be buying anymore gear (I'm 90, have three cameras and a dozen lens.) but if I do, I'll be sure not to buy directly from Canon.

Sorry you had so much trouble, apparetly Canon thinks it's doing business in the 18th Century.

I will not buy direct from canon! I am in the market to upgrade my 5DIV and looking at canon because of all the L series EF glass I own. If I have to switch to canon RF L glass the Sony a1 May now be a smart move.
