If I were a younger man, I would most likely make the switch as I've always traded up to the latest equipment. However as a 75 year old with a Nikon D5 and 7 Nikkor lenses, I think I can go the rest of the way without transitioning to a mirrorless system.

Thank you for the complement.
Some folks here talk the talk and walk the walk. Others can only talk the talk, because they are basically talking head trolls with no real practical photographic skill.
If I could see a post with an actual image instead of dribble it might, just might, change my opinion.
Again, many thanks for your complement. It means a lot to me that others enjoy my images. I post daily on three sites here in Florida. My favorite comments from my buds are, "you make our day" "enjoy my coffee and my daily images from you"
I do so constructively and I am not a talking head who uses cute imagined non sensical phrases about mirrorless camera's superiority which is basically just plain old trolling in disguise.
But, I digress. So, I am posting another image taken with a mirrored camera for your benefit because you have been so kind to comment on my images. Enjoy, it is of a male Great Blue Heron passing a stick for the nest to the female that is laying on eggs and did not wish to stand up to get the stick.
Nikon D500, Nikon 200-500 mm 5.6
Thank you for the complement. br Some folks here ... (show quote)

Mirror, Mirror that shot should be on a Wall !!

This question is for those who have made the transition from DSLR to Mirrorless cameras. What do you feel is the biggest advantage that you have found in making the switch? Is there anything that you were disappointed in?
Your answers will help ME decide if I too should make the switch.
Thanks in advance for your lucid comments.
Mike

Just got my Z9. Been using D850’s since they came out.
When the z7 was released, I wanted to wait for the like Z7s or whatever.
Then I heard about the Z9 at a trade show and said I’d wait for that.
I’ll report my findings as I go.

The road to success is littered with discarded DSLRs. What a mess.

A hybrid. A cross between a DSLR and the Z6 mirrorless.

Put a full manual focus on an IBIS mirrorless body and then you know digital success.

There is no such thing as a "hybrid".

Does it have a flapping mirror or not?
Does it have an EVF or not?

It is an improved DSLR with higher performance electronic features gleaned from mirrorless development. This is not a bad thing. But the word "hybrid" is just marketing talk.

Well, as usual, Canon leads with way, with sensor covers for their mirrorless cameras and dust gaskets for their (higher-end) lenses. Personally, I prefer every lens is IS-enabled via the camera's IBIS over whether to pick the IS lens or not for the DSLR / SLR.

I will put my Sony A1 up against any of your Canon Crap. Sorry, but I will always show that one Mirror gives a Better Reflection than the other. I know that you have a Sony Paul, But if you think that you have anything in your Arsenal that can keep up with the A1, let me know. Keep on Keeping on Brother.

Yes, it does have EVF, etc.

Actually, there are two working definitions of "hybrid" in common use in photography. In wedding photographer circles, "hybrid" generally means a combination of film and digital capture are used to record the event. A few years back, there were many trade articles about combining both types of coverage. However, the trend was short lived, and there are few doing it now. Digital cameras are too good, and film is just too slow and expensive to be practical for such work. Film has its places, but weddings don't really demand it.

Among those of us who use cameras equally designed to be adept at video and stills capture, we refer to our cameras as Hybrids. In the Panasonic GH series, The 'H' stands for Hybrid. The Lumix S1H is specifically designed as the 1st Lumix Stills/Hybrid full frame camera body. (The S also stands for Leica's 'S' mount, the lens mount shared among Sigma, Panasonic, and Leica. The S1H is loaded with crossover features that serve all our needs. Other camera companies (notably, Fujifilm and Sony) make cameras with various degrees of emphasis on this balance, too. To be credible hybrids, the video features have to meet the needs of entry- and mid-level professionals and include excellent on-board audio recording tools. Some of Nikon's and Canon's recent models are there, too.
