Apparently "they" didn't count the front windshield. I didn't invent the nomenclature, just reporting.
Evidently, since all cars had windshields regardless of coupe, sedan, roadster, etc...it was thought to be un-necessary to count the windshield when specifying the number of windows on a coupe.
