Focus Stacked Image of a Scorpionfly

This is one of my preserved scorpionflies that I staged for a focus stacking session. This session is a bit different than others that I have done of them in the past using different setups.

The scorpionfly is a scavenger of other insects. They are even bold enough to "steal a meal" of an insect caught in a spider web. They get their name due to the bulb-like end of the male's tail which resembles that of a scorpion. Although, unlike a scorpion, the bulbous end of the tail is used in reproduction.

This session was staged with a 28mm f/4 enlarger lens set fully open and mounted in reverse onto a 2X teleconverter. These two lenses in series are mounted on an extended bellow. This is a focus-stacked image consisting of 157-images taken at a distance of 5-microns each. The stack of images was processed in Zerene Stacker using the Pmax method.

Thanks for posting, but I'm afraid to download as I'm afraid it will scare the bleap out of me. ;-}

Thanks, ChuckMc. Fortunately, they are absolutely harmless for they are quite small with tiny mouthparts and they do not sting nor bite.

Thanks, Rbmacc. I'd rather be doing swimsuit models, however, that's only in my dreams.

Kpmac, I'll change my rig to see if I can make that happen.

Thanks, UTMike. I believe I recall something like this in the famous Star Wars bar scene where the variety of aliens was gathering for drinks and entertainment.
