Is there a Facebook guru on here? I’m trying to set up a page for a fledgling photography club. I want it to be “private” for members only, want admin and moderators to be anonymous in their “official” posts but able to post as regular members using their own names. Is this doable? Can you help?

In my opinion, I would not use Facebook. Instead, I would use Instagram.

Thanks. This will be a fairly small group, most of whom use fb but few use Instagram.

The admin & moderators are the same thing as far as I know. FB calls them admin.
'private' is a setting you select when creating the page.
In a group I help admin, we use private messaging for communicating amongst the admins and we post photos, Etc. like everyone else.
You can create a group in chat (PM).
I don't think you can have two different ways of posting to make the admin post anonymous.
I don't know much about Instagram but I don't think it would serve for what you want to do.
Hope this helps some.

There is another option, "MeWe" does not have advertisements.

Marg, this might work for you. Create a user named admin and provide the credentials to those who are admins. Then, each member could have their own log in separate from admin.

Thanks, Bob! I’ll give that a try!

A side note, if you read the Facebook terms and conditions, you will find that Facebook has the right to use any image posted on their website. So make sure that your users make the image file size small so that it cannot be blown up too large.

Thank you for that heads up!

Why not ask FB's support people?

Duh! Didn’t realize they had support. Thanks, Jerry.

You really can't get a high res pic posted, as FB compresses the crap pout of it. About 2048(last I checked) on the long side is the largest such that FB will only do minimum compression. In any event I doubt any photo on FB would be of $$value$$ larger than 5x7.

Good luck trying to find any support people at Facebook. At a former job I had to manage the company's Facebook page and I never had any luck speak or communicating with a live person. My guess is there are probably videos on You Tube with step by step instruction on how to set up a group page on Facebook.

Agreed! I sent a message as soon as Jerry suggested it and to date no reply. From what I’ve seen it looks like I can’t follow Bob’s advice to set up a user name for a “group” but I can for a “page” and have done so. There do, however seem to be a lot of ads and links come up on the page and I don’t want that. 🥴

In all fairness the ads and links are what pays for your account(s). There is no free lunch! :)
