Lightroom 4 does not recognise photographs from the SX50, however, Picasa does.

You are probably missing something in Lightroom.
Are you shooting in RAW or JPEG?
Lightroom with recognize both and add them to your catalog.
Check the Lightroom manual and try again.
It is definitely NOT the Canon SX50 that is causing this.
It is on the web also abode does to support the SX 50 in CS6' they have not caught up yet, I download in jpeg and raw.

It will probably take a few weeks to incorporate the RAW converter in Lightroom. In the meantime, get a conversion program; Google "RAW conversion SX-50" or see:

My SX50 arrived yesterday. I have not loaded anything from the DVD to my computer, as I had already downloaded the manual.
I took a few shots yesterday. I download into Lightroom 4. I download from my memory card, not the camera. Lightroom recognised my .jpegs but as you say not my RAW photos.
Since reading your post I have tried to load my photos to our ipad, but again no luck there.

I just borrowed my friend's PowerShot SX50 HS, took several photos, and imported them into Lightroom. No problems.
Possible variables between what I just did and your set-up:
1) I'm using Windows 7 (x64 bit), with latest updates.
2) I do not download images from the camera, but remove the memory chip and copy the images to my harddrive before importing into Lightroom.
3) I'm using Lightroom version 4.2
I'm interested in seeing what is causing the problem you are experiencing.
My husband has Windows 7 (x64bit) on his computer and also Lightroom 4.2.
Again he loaded direct from my memory chip. Lightroom only recognised the jeps.

Odd. We seem to using the same set-up and versions.
Maybe I have uploaded/upgraded something in the meantime, but the RAW files from the SX50 imported nicely. I'll try editing them just to make sure I can. So far I just viewed them in LR4.2.
My husband runs Adobe CS5 (x64bit), he tried to look at the SX50 RAW photos, it wouldn't open them but did show the thumbnail. Weird or what!

Have you looked to see if there are updates available for your version of LR?
Yes there has been a recent update which I installed. But it did not help.
Thank you very much for the link to Lightroom 4.3. I have downloaded it and can now see my RAW photos, and more to the point can resume taking photos in RAW.
Thank you Zizi although my husband had to install it for me, I took a couple of quick shots out in the gardeb and Lightroom took them from the memory card.
