Diabetic costs

I was reminded again yesterday of the cost of Insulin in the U S, when I read the story of a 26 year old man who died because he could not afford the $900 per month for the drug. It breaks my heart, especially at this time of year to read of things like this happening when we live in the world of the Elon Musks and so many others like him who will never live long enough to spend their trillions.
Its probably still happening but I remember some years ago reading about bus loads of U S citizens coming into Canada from the U S to get insulin because the cost is 10% of what it is in the U S. I am assuming these were close to the borders and not days away.
I would like to find someone in the U S whose life I can make a little better. I am not rich by any means but I do have a comfortable life (mostly because I don't want much from life). I would like to make contact with someone who needs Insulin, or maybe their Child needs it. I have done a quick check and it looks like it will travel OK by mail or any form of ground transportation if packaged properly. Apparently in Canada you can buy it over the counter....not sure about the U S.
I am only looking for someone who really cannot afford it themselves or someone who has to make a choice every week/month.......do I buy food, pay the rent, or buy the insulin I need?
Thanks folks. If you know someone give me some contact info...email etc. there is no catch/scam here. I would really like to make a difference in a strangers life and in a way I'm being a little selfish. I know it will make a positive difference in mine. Merry Christmas to All.

Incredibly kind of you to make such a generous offer to a needy person/family. The disparity in pricing between the 2 neighboring countries is directly attributable to the corrupt Congress. Our government is answerable only to the special interests who have bought and paid for it, and the people are literally paying the price for it. It matters little whether the congressperson is Democrat or Republican, they are all corrupted and answerable to lobbyists. According to OpenSecrets, A 501(c)(3) tax-exempt, charitable organization based in D.C., the amount spent on the 435 House and 100 Senate congressional campaigns in the year 2020 totaled $8,703,050,547 - almost $9 billion, which speaks volumes to why our insulin costs are so much higher.

Once again, such a kind and refreshing offer, it is people like yourself that make this world a better place. I hope the offer finds its match.

Perhaps the CEOs of the American drug companies that so much should be up for manslaughter when tragedies like this happen. Hell is waiting for these abominable human beings.

What Mr. Dearing said above...A very handsome offer and certainly in keeping with the spirit of the season.

A valid argument, but I would caution you to remember that the $9 billion ended up in the pockets of people who needed it to survive. I.e. it was paid to TV, advertising, public relations, etc companies who paid it out in wages and salaries to their employees, who in turn paid it to grocery stores, landlords, etc, who in turn paid it out to their employees, and so forth. I think that all that political spending is not as bad as it seems on the surface.

Please note that I am IN NO WAY defending the prices charged for insulin or other drugs. I take a maintenance drug that costs about $500/month. Fortunately I have insurance that picks up the bulk of that but it is still a strain. I seriously doubt that they could justify that price if put to the test.

Thank you Jack for such selfish offer. Just goes to show that love for fellow man goes beyond Borders. God Bless you and your family. Merry Christmas.

I order my two Asthma drugs from a Pharmacy up there every 3 months and they ship them to me... at a savings of about $1100 for the three month supply compared to what a Medicare drug plan will pay here.

Very kind of you to offer. But...you're opening yourself up for a tragedy. First and foremost, it's illegal, at least in the U.S., to transfer prescription drugs to another person. Secondly you will very likely find someone who is sincerely trying to obtain drugs, not for themselves, but to resell at a profit. And Insulin must be stored refrigerated and has a shelf life. If not handled properly it will be useless or worse in a short time. And how long will a dealer hold onto it before finding someone willing to pay the price that he wants for it!
This is a really bad, if well intentioned idea. Tom's response might be the right idea here, but I don't know how that would be done. May have to go to Canada and find a doctor there for a prescription.

Thank you. I have thought of everything you say and before I do anything I will make sure that it is completely legal. Whoever gets it will have to have a prescription and I will be viewing it and keep a copy on my phone. I will also have a copy at a pharmacy here if it is needed. Thanks again.

I am happy to say that I am not in need of insulin nor money, but when there is a need like that there is most likely a charity that will try to help out. I don't know the details but the American Red Cross or Community Chest are generally reputable charities with national scope. If they don't address that particular need they may be able to advise you of a group that does. When charity shopping, there are also organizations that rate charities based on the amount of donated funds that actually go into helping people. Probably better to support a charity than to support one person. Support for such a charity can also include promotion among your friends and relations (and beyond).
