iPad frustrations.
My new iPad update with OS15.1 has created a daily problem for me. As most of us that voluntarily stayed home for several months during the Covid, our connection with the outside world was the internet. My iPad was my tool for that purpose. I was used to navigate it for paying bills, to communicate and send photos to my family and other simple tasks, it was “my buddy” you may say then and now, till few days ago that Apple forced me to update my iPad with OS15.1. Large unwanted icons, pop ups, slow to delete messages, and I can go on and on with my frustration when I turn on my iPad. There maybe solutions as some of you may post, but they have to be simple because at 84 years old I can’t remember computer language.

Call Apple Tech Support (call & service is free) 800-275-2273. Been using them for years for the mundane to real "Low, Central Back Pains). Last evening spent two hours with a Tech. Supervisor working through a Printer problem to determine if the basic problem existed with the computer or printer. Computer was contributing; resolved, then left me with "suggestions" to discuss with printers tech support group. In the last 20 years with at least 5 calls per year, I've only gotten one Tech that was stupid and I wound up hanging up and recalling the number above and got a better tech.
Check out the ability to easily view meta-data and label pics.
The “large, unwanted, icons” are probably Widgets. If so, they have always been there but you had to know where to find them. They can be customized, moved, added, deleted, or just ignored.
Floyd is right, call the support #. Apple support will be your new best buddy where the iPad is concerned.
I am able to get most info I need via google or the online manual.

Mine would like to install 15.1 right now. I think I’ll wait awhile.
I have two iPads with 15.1, one is for work provided by by company and IT goes through the new os before they release it for upgrading/updating. My personal iPad I use for reading and email if I am away from my home computer. In either case I have never had a problem with the updates. My personal iPad gets the updates before my work computer by sometimes 30 days or more.
Sorry to hear of your issues. I am using 15.1 on my iPad and have had (knock on wood) no issues. I suggest calling Apple support or taking it in to the Apple store for diagnostic testing. Good luck.
I just installed 15.1 on my iPad Pro. Since the installation, I am having issues with sound on some of my apps. I loaded an advent calendar that has music on it but I get no sound. The worst problem is my Guitar Pro software as I use that as my metronome. Anyone else with the sound problem? Note that I do still get the sound on YouTube and my music. Some of the games have also lost sound.

what you describe is a bad product. I have never called for support 5 times a year for anything but then again I have no Apple equipment.

1st... in settings, you can ONLY update when YOU decide, not an automatic/Apple decision. Many times an updated will have bugs in it that are worked out in patches later. I NEVER install an update till a week or so after it comes out.
2 simple things you need to do regularly to help with slowness and other issues [ and I don’t remember the correct termology] (1) get rid of programs running in background and (2) reboot. Those 2 will alleviate most of your problems.

Yeah, right. Must be the product.

I am still waiting as well. As shown in my reply to OP, I never update immediately. However, my wife has updated to 15.1 on her new iPad Pro with everything OK so far
