Nonsense. Regardless of the purpose for which it was intended, the only thing that counts, for any tool, is how it works. I have used crescent wrenches ( adjustable ) to remove sticky corks from bottles. Worked fine.

And I've used a shoe to remove a wine cork from a bottle. I prefer to walk in my shoes and use a corkscrew. From experience, a pipe wrench or a crescent plier won't spin on the cork like an adjustable crescent wrench would.

Front teleconverters are afocal, so there is no question whether it will work. So shoot the same scene with and without it, enlarge the "without" print to match the "with", and see which you like better.

A channel lock pliers will work. I save my pipe wrench for stuck filters ( A joke--please don't even try it)

I happened upon a posting on dpreview by someone who mounted a Nikon TC-E15ED, 1.5x front mounted converter onto his 50-250 mm Nikon kit lens and he posted some nice images. That site attacked him and the idea of adding such a convertor, they also always talk down less expensive equipment anyway. So I decided to see if this approach might work on the rare occasion I want a little longer reach. I found the TC and the UR-E8 mount on ebay for a reasonable price to use as an experiment. What I had not counted on was the fact that the TC has a 50 mm male screw and the Z lens a 62 mm female, I have a slew of up and down sizers, but not one is a 50 mm. I did a search and can't seem to find one. B and H simply said, I won't work and really wasn't very supportive.

Does anyone know of a way to get from the 50 to the 62?

You made a basic mistake, do not make it worse. Learn from this error and put on your big boy pants and move on.

No need for all the belittlements flying around ......

Super glue is your friend. Glue a 52mm to 62mm adapter ring on the back of your lens. Yes, I have experimented like this many times over the years. Post your results ! Adapting a smaller optical element to a larger one is generally not a good idea - the other way around would make better sense from a purely optical viewpoint. Experimentation is one of the funner aspects of photography.

Cropping and using pixel enlargement might be another/ better solution for you to consider.

I agree - wasting money and time/effort. Get the 1.4TC designed for Z-mount lenses.

First, Amazon lists a generic 50 to 52 mm adapter ring for 50 mm lens threads. $11.

Second, do your experiment, the later half of my career was dominated by doing things in the mid-infrared that were not possible according to the experts.

I use wrenches to remove stuck filters, but they look like these:

Those work well. There are also tools with adjustable rubber band which work well, especially on larger items like threaded pieces stuck on telescopes. Look like something for oil filters which they may well be made for? Your's work better for two rings stuck together as they are narrower in width/thickness and thus two can easily be used at once to turn two rings stuck together.

Isn't it my choice to experiment and see if it works? Maybe it will actually give good results and cost less than a tenth of the nearest comparison? Think of where our world would be if every inventor in the past listened to you!

You seem to be belittling this fellow. If he wants to experiment, so be it. Being condescending and arrogant isn't appropriate.
