I certainly have learned a lot from fellow hoggers. Like one of my professors told me once “ you can learn from every person how to do it or how not to do it “. That advice has served me well throughout my entire life. Thank you to all my fellow hoggers for all their input.

I am at 5 years a member at UHH. I don't think it has changed my life, but it has improved my knowledge of digital photography. I have learned a lot from various member, but I have learned the most from you Paul. Thanks for your efforts.

Later in this thread you post how you look forward to manual with auto ISO and exposure comp on a future camera. But your plan from several years ago on the life of your 5D III is holding you back. I feel you will love the R5 or other R bodies in this regard when you do change, as that is how I shoot almost 100% of the time now. I have exposure comp set on control ring, so I can change and see in viewfinder how it effects my image and see what my ISO is changing to. I really look forward to my favorite teacher updating his equipment so he can teach the new stuff to us. I'm also looking forward to you getting the new Lightroom sometime, but that may not happen soon from your past writings. Also, if you wanted to make a trip 300 miles south to shoot together, I could be clumsy enough to help you drop the 5D and speed up it's end of life.

I have found UHH a great addition to my photographic tool box. I am glad I joined.

I've been back from a few weeks travel culling images and thinking about 'Technique School' topics. Alas, those topics are a few weeks into the future with thousands of images to cull and several ideas to write about. But in the meantime, a thought hit me that can be asked today: How has UHH changed your life? (I had to use another subject title to assure this thread didn't get pushed to chit chat.)

The thought / question came from a range of images where I was shooting maybe a bit too slow for the wildlife with an effort to keep the ISO low, specifically at ISO-100. That's a change that I can trace directly to UHH. As I approach my own 9-year join-date, the focus on low(est) ISO is something I picked up here at UHH. In the old days, I never worried about the digital ISO, at least not like I do today, and my cameras are all way better today than the model I shot back before joining.

Same here, but I like reading it every day. Happy to answer questions in posts, when I know the answer.

I'm ten days away from being on here eight years and I have definitely enjoyed the journey. UHH has helped me to transition from film to digital photography. I retired, bought my first digital camera, got Lightroom & Kelby's book on it, bought an Epson V600 scanner, and joined UHH all in the same year, 2013.

All of those have improved my photography over the years. But UHH has been the most enjoyable. So many things all on one site. Great tips from very knowledgeable folks, excellent photos from many different genres, at least a laugh a day and a place to post some of my own stuff and get feedback.

Also, it seems like I've made many friends that I hear from almost every day that I don't even really know. It's one of the habits I can't seem to do without, Pepsi and walking outside being a couple of others.

I thank you all for making it what it is.

Paul, thanks for sequestering my mind with the thoughts of how much this blog has changed my life.

1. I bought the all new Sony RX-10 and was a very happy camper!
2. Then the thought that I would be better if only I could change lenses came at me after reading posts. So from MT Shooter I purchased a NEX-7, and proceeded to collect lenses.
3. But listening to all the chatter, I came to realize that I wanted a full frame body!
4. So I went full frame with an A7 ll and started to collect full frame lenses.
5. Travel was a big part of my life so I added Olympus M4/3 equipment and collected lenses.
6. The transition to Full frame was not all I hoped for so I traded back to APS-C, but kept my lens collection.
7. Convinced I needed more education, I took lessons at local supplier B and C Camera.
8. UHH and my local advisor kept harping on me to use RAW, and so I finally started to shoot Raw with the A6300.
9. Now the A7 lll came out and I just had to go back to full frame as I was now shooting raw!
10. Needed to buy a raw processing program because "Photos" was not good enough as per many on UHH. But I could not mentally accept Lightroom so I tried Capture One and I was sold.
11. Traded away the A6300, the RX-10 (sadly), and finally my beloved 18-105 EZ-PZ lens
12. Started getting turned on to lighting. Stated buying used equipment.
13. So into photography, I did not have time to paint anymore (Covid is also to blame because who willingly wants to sit in a room alone and paint when you CANNOT go out!)
14. Attended WPPI and bought a website
15. In too deep....... have to make this pay off
16. Started a photography business
17. Now selling my services, but will I ever really make a profit on this?
18. So thanks to all of you, UHH, and also B and H who profited greatly, I am now a green horn professional, trying to ease up the local ranks.

There is a progression, your mind is curious. No matter how old you get, the ability to learn is what separates us from savages. All of the posts I have read, whether they are correct or seriously kidding themselves, are learning experiences. Even the jerks who made fun of any posts I wrote, helped me to learn, and for that I am grateful!!

I've learned that, if one is not shooting the Three Bs (birds, bugs or blossoms) there appears to be a lot less interest among amateur photogs (or at least UHH members) for others' work.

Paul, I have adopted Auto-ISO since most of my Photography is Sports, College and Pro, but I also tend to lower my ISO when doing stills and Portraiture, although I sometimes shoot no higher than ISO 600. If I happen too be using Flash or other Lighting, I have found that with my Sony A1 I virtually eliminated the need for lower ISO's. You most definitely posted a Great Topic.

I do not know what UHH is or where I can find a helpful definition.

I think it is obligatory that posters should not use shortened versions of something they are using. Spell it out friend and I bet you will get more attention.

Good Luck.

What a sad response not to have learned anything after looking at thousands of posts over the years, but acoarst what else could we expect from someone who already knows it all.
