Hi friends. Quick question. Do you think shooting high school swimming meet indoors that my 85mm f1.8 or my 105mm f/2.8 would be better. I guess I could take both and see what looks the best. I will be shooting mainly with my 80-200mm f/2.8. I will be shooting this afternoon at 3:30 central time. Thanks BE SAFE!!

take the 2.8 for depth of field. You may even want to set it at 3.5 or 4

Dear Tom...I just bought a Sony 85mm prime lens for my Sony A7R4 and took indoor soccer pictures with it last night. It blew my Sony 70-200mm F2.8 images away in both image quality as well as auto focusing quicker. If you DO NOT need the zoom telephoto at this particular event, than I recommend shooting the entire meet with the 85mm. If you DO need the versatility of the zoom telephoto, do what I do and carry both to do test photos and see which serves your needs best. Hope that helps.

Most swimming venues I have been in are quite dark. My gut tells me, if the reach is enough, you may want the 1.8. that said, it will have quite a short DoF so it depends on what type of shots you are looking for. The may be good for individual swimmer shots.

You do so well with the 70-200, that should be good for group shots.

Will be interesting how high you have to push your ISO. Post when you can, along with they setting you ending up finding out were needed. Have fun

Dear Tom...Having shot indoor soccer with all three of your lenses, I would recommend you shoot everything with your 80-200mm set at F2.8 aperature; 1/500th second shutter speed and ISO set on "auto" for needed depth of field and flexibility on focal length and fix any exposure problems in post editing. Good Luck! Shooter41

Tom,
I assume you have already shot the swim meet so I would be curious to see what you actually shot with.
I would agree with Shooter41 and use the 80-200 f 2.8. A fixed focal length will really limit your ability to capture photos since swimmers don't necessarily have to breath with every stroke (butterfly and free).
