If close flash and bird photography in difficult light works well...some examples. I used a V1 and did not need an extender.

Yes, fine shots! They bust the shell open, hammer like a woodpecker, then they suck down the nuts, and they will eat a lot of shelled peanuts in the cxourse of a day!!
