I have a Sony a99ii camera with 7 Sony\Minolta lenses and camera accessories. This camera was purchased new and I wanted to purchase a backup camera so I purchased a Sony RX10M4. Price was not a problem after doing online research. The only thing I updated was the tripod. I purchased a Sirui 75mm panhead tripod with dual handles which stands at full extension over 6 feet tall. Comes with a BCH 20 video head.

So now you never consider risk factors ? Not clear what your reply means ... If either camera tumbles into the swamp, having backup means you just push on ?

Short answer; maybe.
Note added cost usually means added weight. The only concern is canoeing early next spring the Colorado down stream of the dam at Boulder for a 3 or 4 day camping , hiking and sightseeing paddle. I want to take D500 and or the D850. Other than the 18 to 300 (which does not seem to be sharp at the extremes) for D500 I do not own any inexpensive equipment.

With respect to hiking the camera bag is heavy at 20 pounds without the D500. Some days i want the 200 to 500 but for me it would be limited use and I do not need the added weight. My wife will carry lunch and a first aid kit but not my camera gear, water, hat or umbrella. Sometimes she will carry the tripod; but it does strap to the camera bag. When we are hiking in boulders, steep gravel we both need hiking poles so her hands are full.

If they get snow we are also looking at a raft float that is advertised as not getting wet near Gaylord Michigan after Christmas. The water is suppose to be flat.

Sometimes I worry about thief when hiking on the streets of some cities; no way I would go to the large city on the south end of Lake Michigan that is in the state west of me. About 10 years ago someone did try to pick pocket my small Sony camera on a Prague train. I have since learned how to avoid those situations.

There was a time when I changed my behavior to protect my expensive camera body, but it was based on the fact that rivulets of sweat and camera circuitry don't mix well. In the late film camera days (the days were bodies were relatively cheap and the big expense was film, particularly if you bracketed your exposure and shot chromes), I would shoot macros for hours in my hot Texas greenhouse. After several years, sweat would corrode some circuit, and I would have to purchase a new body. After I fried my first expensive digital body, I taught myself studio lighting so I could shoot in airconditoned comfort and preserve my camera bodies. With the advent of live view, mirrorless bodies, and apps that allow me to focus on an auxiliary screen, I don't have to schlepp my plants indoors to my upstairs studio quite so often. These days, being much older and perhaps a little wiser, it's my body is seek to preserve. I don't shoot for extended periods in the greenhouse on sunny days. Even in the dead of winter, on bright sunny days, it is not uncommon for the temperature to reach 100.

Interesting topic. I never thought about this. No, my behavior doesn't change.

I think we are fortunate as photographers. The equipment is so good. 30 years with Argus, and then 30 years with Canon and never a serious problem, and that is with a lot of heavy use in the field.

I'll stick with Willie the Shake, hopefully go doing something more interesting than huddling in a bed.

From the responses to your question, who do you perceive to be huddling in a bed?

Speaking of and for myself and my personal choices. Hectoring sometimes gets unfortunate responses.

Joe! it's just a hack bread and butter image mate;
thanks for the kind words though.

That site is in Cremorne, a "suburb" that's more or less part of Richmond
about 2 miles S.E. of the Melbourne CBD.

Cremorne was the lowest of the low rent localities
abounding with toxic industries, crime and prostitution...
but being so close to the CBD, by the 1990s it had investors interested.
So now it has been sanitized... to an extent;
one could say if you live or even just work there, your street cred gets a boost.

Bryant and May the match manufacturers in Cremorne
use an image of another commodity that could
be found/bought in the streets around their factory.

Dam, when dealing with Red Heads I always found the danger to be more engaging than safety!

Can you read? Cognitive dissonance? You pick up a shoe, someone's and it fits? By all means wear it. I ain't afraid of much.
