I opened this up in LR! I took this last spring. It wasn't much of a day so I never did anything with these. Then, out of boredom, I was scrolling through some pictures and I liked the curve of this twig. When I opened it in LR, I saw what else I had.
Good catch. It pays to recheck your photos

Thanks, JD. Glad I finally did.
Beautiful set, Kathy! It is always better to be lucky than good. (LOL)
That often happens with me. I always take a look at full screen before deleting something!
There are 'parts' (aspects, really) in either image that works (for me) in several ways. The cropped version is more spot on in terms of 'subject' (and might conceiveably be even more spot on with a slightly tighter crop), while the background --with its naturally 'vignetted' out-of-focus darks/lights, blues -vs- highlights-- is (subjectively) 'better' in the uncropped version.
I look at an image pair like this and think..... what if the 'subject' (the dragonfly & the curvy branch) were selected, and copied, and pasted onto an uncropped --but horizontally flipped, such that the highlight area was on the left where the d'fly would be-- version of the background? Yeah, I know that sounds a little complicated, but it's really not, and since you're bored anyhow, why not make the boredom count for something positive? Huh?
When I focus in on the top photo and enlarge the “fly” it has amazing detail. Very nice surprise.
As in, 'something like this.'
Which took maybe two minutes. (Wasn't especially careful with the selection, so it's got some errors, but hopefully you get what I meant.)

Thanks, Mike. Luck surely plays a key role.

I don't ever delete unless it's a black blob. And usually I'm anxious to see what I've got. So this was extraordinary.
