You don't need 100 octane.

All you need is ethanol-free gasoline, obtainable at SOME service stations and ALL airports and marinas.

Marina fuel is usually 87 Octane.

Go wherever it's cheapest!

Since the U.S. has mandated ethanol in our auto fuel, the ethanol has wrecked havoc in our small garden engines. I've found a solution to the problem. I've been buying 100 oct. low lead at the local airport FBO. 100 oct LL does not need any stabilizer, and small engines love the lead for lubrication. I now have a new Simplicity Snow Blower, running on 100 oct LL, along with my lawn tractor, and wood chipper. I also have an array of battery operated yard tools from Chainsaws, weed eaters, blowers, and hedge trimmer. Those tools are all Ryobi 40amp. I'm in the process of having a standby generator whole house propane generator installed. Here in rural New Hampshire, it's not uncommon to loose power for two to three days and maybe even four days.

Alternately, ethanol free gas, available at some/many gas stations depending on your area is a less expensive solution and will save you a trip to the airport. Of course, if you’re a pilot and visit the airport regularly, 100 LL is an alternative.

Here in New Hampshire, all the stations do not have ethanol gas. You have to buy it in a 1 gallon can, for about $20/ gal. in any big box store like Home Depot. A real rip off.

Wow. Here in NC It’s ~$3.50/gallon at several BP gas stations near me. Wonder why it’s so expensive where you are.

Take 17 North to Flagstaff..... You will find much of the "snow" that you are curious about.😁

The engine on my leaf vac (2008) wouldn't start without starting fluid. I drained the fuel and put clean fuel in the tank. No good. I removed the card, thinking I could clean it. With using a hacksaw, I see no way of opening it. I ordered a new carb from Amazon - $19.33 delivered overnight. It is absolutely identical to the original. I just put it on, and the engine started right up. I thought it was funny - and typical - that I needed both imperial and metric tools to remove the carb.

I'm going to order carbs for my generator and snow blower.

Every time I buy small engine gas, I add Sta-Bil to it immediately. At end of season storage time, I drain the gas from the device tank and start the engine to run through the last drops of gas. Then I throw in an ounce of Sta-Bil. If I have any left-over gas in the can, it goes in the car.

I haven't had an engine fail in 15 years due to bad gas. A repair guy explained Sta-Bil to me... worked himself out of a job.

$2.98/gal in High Point today...

Of course that's within five miles of the big distribution center near PTI/GSO.

Then, the big day, we reworked the trip to the Loop to go see Thunderball on the big screen at Chicago Theater. (Got to visit Chicago Union Station, with snow melting in my Wellington boots.)

We had relatives come to visit on Easter and they had to stay an extra night because the Thruway was closed because of snow.

I've heard that ethanol-free gas is best for small engines. Maybe I'll start using that. I'll do some research. We have a Stewart's near us, and their Premium is ethanol-free.

On my carb, the bolt in the center holds the fuel bowl. Remove it and the bowl drops right down. You can then unscrew the main jet with a slotted screwdriver and remove it along with the emulsion tube that’s directly above it and held in by the main jet. As I mentioned before, it’s not symmetrical - the top and bottom of the emulsion tube on mine has a different hole/pattern/spacing at each end. The whole process takes just 5-10 minutes.

Yes, that's what I've seen in the past. In this model, all that bolt does is let the gas out.

Here in New Hampshire, it is impossible to find any gas stations pumping non ethanol fuel directly into a car. You can look at the website "Ethanol Free gas stations" and find all the ethanol free stations in your State by town. NH lists a few, but all note sold in containers. This means the gas is prepackaged in a can. The cans do not have a spout, but once opened the can is ruined. Ethanol in the gas in a small engine will ruin the carburetor, by dissolving the plastic hoses, plastic parts etc. 100 oct Low Lead, aircraft fuel is a pure fuel, and has a long shelf life, and never needs to be stabilized. It does burn a little hotter than MoGas with ethanol, so there is no carbon build up. It will not dissolve plastic parts, and engines will start easier

We have a couple of gas stations where I live that sell non-ethanol gas. One was 90 octane, and the other 93 octane. I don't need the high octane, but with no ethanol, no issues with carb fouling.
