The most "peoples life" innovation to help to me with chores is the washing machine, not a sweeper.

I subscribed to CR for more than 20 yrs. finally gave it up upon retirement. Maybe I am wrong, but the few times I tempted to obtain product descriptions and ratings online one needed to be a subscriber. Thanks

Many libraries offer free access to CS with your library card.

When the TV series "The Jetsons" was canceled, I purchased "Rosie the robot maid" who was out of work and our floors have never been cleaner.😂

Check your library for copies of CR. Our library here in Punta Gorda, FL has a subscription to the print version and online version. Your library may as well.

I bought a Roomba several years ago that was supposed to be great for pet hairs and could deal with fringe on rugs. With one cat that I kept brushed every day the pet hair wasn't a problem, BUT, it did fail miserably with the fringed ends of my orientals. I was constantly untangling the brushes on it from the fringe. Finally gave up and it has sat for 4 years doing nada. Waste of nearly $600. It did do well on plain floors, though.

Any time I have read Consumer Reports tests of products I am very familiar with, I didn't feel they were accurate.

Very true. I've had the same experience many times which is why I canceled my subscription 20 years ago.

Thanks for the responses; however, I had hoped someone here would have had some knowledge of the Shark model. Perhaps the unit is too new. I am not particularly enthralled with most of the experiences expressed about the R model. But it looks like these devices, at current design specs, are anything but a vacuum panacea.

We have a Roomba and it works very well. It self empties and then keeps going. There are many models and they have one that you can tell where to go . I love mine.
