Your photographic style

I do photography for its own sake and to fulfill myself.
In doing so, I bear in mind four factors: Effective composition, good exposure, interesting subject, and my intention for a given photograph.
I consider photography an artform among the visual arts. I qualify this consideration by maintaining that photography functions as a craft that may rise to art in the right hands.
I note that photography presents as a wordless medium of human expression. Hence, the appreciation of a photograph first involves human perception minus words.
Because foremost a craft, photography requires practice over a period of years to learn it and to produce worthy photographs.
Accepting no money for my photography, I avoid the bias of preferring money shots over others that attract my eye.
The field of photography offers wide room for all tastes and activity in its realization.

I still recall now many years ago when I told my dad that I liked "pictures" because everything out in the distance was clear and sharp. Even as a physician (but not an eye doc) he didn't pick up on the subtext there, only realizing around the time I was tested for a driver's license that I had a serious (in one eye) and moderate (in the other) problem (nearsighted). So I really liked my camera! I have been an off-and-on "serious amateur," whatever that might mean, since.
What I nowadays like to do with my images is find interesting, at least to me, patterns, colors, points of view in 'natural' settings, like rivers when canoeing or even just in the yard. Sometimes that is just a more or less point-and-shoot an interesting landscape, but I am happier to find something interesting in simple shots of flowers, leaves, garden scenes and the like.

I started by taking pictures of my granddaughters & grandsons sporting events (T-ball & soccer). That lead me to some serious shooting of High School football, soccer, volleyball, basketball, softball, and baseball. I shoot most of my sporting pictures at a small High School in the Central Valley of CA that 3 of my grandsons attended. I sell my picture files to the parents & grandparents. I also donate what ever pictures the Yearbook wants. Sometimes I even get to shoot Landscapes, portraits, and once in a while a head shot. It has been very fulfilling.
