My wife and I are going to Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg about the second week of December and are looking for things to do and places to take photographs. We have been there many time but thought I would ask for suggestions to maybe get some new locations and things we might not have done, so if you have and favorite spots please share them with me so I can hopefully check out something new.

We were in Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge. It was part of an 18 day drive around from the NYC area. It was the three most disappointing days of the entire trip.

I would like to get some pictures of a few water falls but my wife and I have both had knee surgery and can't do a lot of walking. Do any of you know where there are some falls next to a pullout that I might be able to photograph.

The park has several either on or close to the road…and definitely do the Cades Cove loop drive but go early for the light and lower crowds.

As you know, it sure is a beautiful place to be and so many picture opportunities. Christmas decorations in Gatlinburg at night are very special. Have a great time.

Unfortunately, Gatlinburg is overrun with head shops and junk shops. There is (or was) a Bubba Gumps on a second floor. North of town is Artists Row where you can find a lot of hand crafted items. Piegon Forge and Severville have a lot of offerings. West of Piegon Forge, past Mel's Diner (which I highly recommend) follow the road to what the locals refer to as "the other side of the mountain." Cirque de Chine in Sevierville is a nice way to spend an evening. It's an amazing show along the lines of Cirque de Soleil. Dollywood has the only silent rollercoaster I have ever experienced. Severville has a really nice car museum. Watch the special channel on the TV in the motel room for more ideas.

I know shopping is most likely not on your agenda, but if you like knives, check out the Smokey Mountain Knife Company. It is huge and each of the major mfg. have their own room. There are showcases stacked full of boxes of knives, often only a couple of styles in the showcase, but stacked so there are hundreds of them in the display. They also have a firearms room but knives are their main focus.

Check out Clingman's Dome the park at the top of mountain; highest point in the park. It really busy at dawn and sundown. I like to go at midnight, especially on a fullmoon lit night. Short STEEP hike to the dome, if it is cloudy don't waste the time, all you can see is clouds. Stay in the mountains.

You might try Ober Gatlinberg, esp. if you have kids.

Getting in and out of Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge is worse than driving cross-town in NYC on 59th St.There is no town Pigeon Forge, it is a 2 lane bumper-to-bumper road with nothing but shops on either side. If you want to go to Dollywood the prices start at $85.00 The one thing in common is the people in both places had no understanding of a healthy diet.

I can’t confirm the Dollywood prices but other than that, you pretty much nailed it. IMO, of course. But if that’s what floats your boat, go for it👍

Wow! I guess I was lucky to go when I did - 2001, 2004.

I’ll take your word for it. I doubt I’ll be going there.👍
