1. What initially attracted you to photography?
Having a professional photographer for a Dad.
When I reached my teens, it could also be handy to have a Dad for a professional photographer.
2. What do you do or want to do with your photography?
With my photography: take the best pictures possible.
With my photos: cherish them for the memories, especially with the grandkids.
3. Do you have a photographic style that is recognizable by others or simply defines your photography.
No. Although Dad did. I could tell a picture was taken by him easily. My cousin found that out, when he tried
to tell me a photo he had was taken by his neighbour. Told him to turn the photo over. Sure enough, the
stamp on the back was my Dad's.
Since I discovered that I can have my photos with stories printed in book, I take many photos with a possibly book in mind.

1 A journalism class in high school. It let me observe things I did not participate in.
2 I want to have fun. I still shoot college sports. My 51st season of Big 12 football. I love being out in nature and observing animals and watching the light change the landscape. When I go to the zoo, I like to shoot tight, sharp portraits of the animals. Waited until I was 62 to get back into rock and roll photography of local cover bands.
3 Still a journalistic style. I don't share many pictures that are not sharp.

1. At the time I was born through my first 7 years, my mom worked for Kodak in a retail sales store. My dad was a pretty accomplished amateur photographer. I discovered darkroom work at the age of 17. Furthermore, the attached image will sum up why I do photography.

2. I have worked for two drag racing periodicals, contracted to a police department, and private investigators. As for what I want to do, I'd like to continue discovering new scenes to photograph and portray them in prints.

3. My photography, after my dad, was most influenced by Ansel Adams. There are a few that can pick my photos out from a group of photographers.

4. On and off, I'm also interested in portraits and street photography. For portraits, I think I'm most influenced by Yousuf Karsh, for street a variety starting with Henri Cartier-Bresson.

Briefly I will offer answers to the questions. There is a longer version.
1, personal expression
2. Teach others, produce images that are in my ‘sweet spot’
3. I know which elements of design and rules of composition are important to me. I know that my most compelling images are candid portraits. To those who Who don’t necessarily value people in photography, landscapes are their attractions. Would you share with me your take in this subject?

My neighbor died tragically, trying to save his fat buddy who was drowning in a lake. His wife gave me his Graflex. After that, I primarily used photography to document my building activities. Interestingly I have more "in process" photos than photos of the completed project. Lately, its been documenting my grandaughter, as well as continuing to add to the huge number of in process construction photos.

My Dad was Chief Photographer for the Washington Daily News and had Pulitzer and other awards so I started as Yearbook Photographer and did some freelance work since I had support and news cameras to use when needed.
Never went full-time pro but have done lots of freelance and a few weddings over the years.
My style is simply photojournalist because I always want to tell a story or document an event.
Always envious of the guys and gals that create art, but it's not my thing.

1. Creative outlet.
2. To improve my ability to 'see' an image that appeals to my brain and not just my eye. To be able to create that image and not just capture what is before my eye.
3. I think I am most recognizable here on UHH - my main outlet- for my 'mini themes' of diverse subjects with a linking theme. I haven't posted many since the onset of Covit, but the favorable feedback I receive typically compliments my composition skills. I think colors are my weakest point, usually from trying to compensate from less than perfect exposure. I am working on that.

1. What initially attracted you to photography?

Wishing to record my travels while in the military. More specifically, my opportunity to travel across the ocean and to see several areas of Europe. First using a movie camera then a film SLR.

2. What do you do or want to do with your photography?

Continue recording my life and my family's life through photographs. Also for self enjoyment of photographing areas, objects, persons, and places.

3. Do you have a photographic style that is recognizable by others or simply defines your photography?

I do not believe I have a "style" just a desire to be considered a photographer.

1. What initially attracted you to photography?

My uncle gave me a camera when I was five years old. I took an immediate liking to it, once I saw my first photos. My parents hated buying film and flashbulbs, but I was hooked. First darkroom at ten, first enlarger and first serious camera at 13...

2. What do you do or want to do with your photography?

I've spent a life turning worthy thoughts into appropriate words and concept-grounding images, with the aim to cause others to take appropriate actions. At my business core, I'm a training content developer/systems manager/project manager/AV producer. Writing and photography (and narration, recording, and editing) are my core tools.

3. Do you have a photographic style that is recognizable by others or simply defines your photography?

I've never thought I had just one style. I do "pose, compose, and expose" carefully. Most of the time I like to show my subject as it is, or as it is revealed to me. I make exceptions for "paying customers and art directors."

I'm equally content making casual, photojournalistic style portraits, or photographing industrial processes, or capturing landscapes, or whatever I see that looks interesting.

In junior high and high school, I was the yearbook and school newspaper candid photographer. I took thousands of people pictures. In other contexts, I did some landscape, travel, and nature photography. I photographed a lot of musical concerts, back when you could do that without anti-camera rules.

I was an audiovisual producer for eight years, working for a yearbook printer and school portrait photofinishing company. I continued working for three different iterations of that company for 33 total years, in various unrelated project management roles (systems management, project management, database development, product development, production management, and training content development).

These days, I mostly photograph family and make short video films with my twins, who are 23 now. I'm also digitizing all the film from my youth, in preparation for high school and college reunion videos.

I'm on UHH to "give back" by helping folks with some of their technical challenges.

Bob, the cartoon in your post reminded me that I flunked first grade art by coloring outside the lines... I've always used that as a snide excuse for being a photographer. That teacher killed any interest I had in art as she taught it.

1. What initially attracted you to photography?

It was a creativity thing. I’d always done ok with art, at least from the creative standpoint, but struggled with the talent to get the visual in my head onto paper or canvas. Photography opened new possibilities.

2. What do you do or want to do with your photography?

Continue creating. I like learning new techniques and trying to see things in different ways.

3. Do you have a photographic style that is recognizable by others or simply defines your photography?

Not really yet. When I was a photography major and all I had was my fully manual Fuji SLR and the 50mm lens I did mostly street photography. I’d like to get back to doing more if it. I’ve really gotten into long exposures and I’m exploring that more. The thing I do most now is wildlife, mainly because I’m usually kayaking or hiking so a lot of my shooting happens then.

While I didn’t get chided for that, my reason was pretty similar.
