My wife and I are going to Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg about the second week of December and are looking for things to do and places to take photographs. We have been there many time but thought I would ask for suggestions to maybe get some new locations and things we might not have done, so if you have and favorite spots please share them with me so I can hopefully check out something new.

South of Gatlinburg is the Twentymile Creek Trail near Tapoco, a gorgeous hiking trail.

I would like to get some pictures of a few water falls but my wife and I have both had knee surgery and can't do a lot of walking. Do any of you know where there are some falls next to a pullout that I might be able to photograph.

If you have not driven the 'Roaring Fork Motor'/Cherokee Orchard' road, it is quite scenic. Google western North Carolina waterfalls map: easy access waterfalls, and no hiking waterfalls, in that area.

I can't help, but THANKS SO MUCH for using a title that actually states what you want,
and not just "Pigeon Forge".

Twentymile Creek has six split-log bridges overlooking roaring rapids last week.

There are a number of fast-moving creeks and small waterfalls in the area along US 129 and along NC 28.

Go to the SkyLift and walk the bridge in Gatlinburg. We ate at Margaritaville in pigeon Forge and it was the best hamburger I’ve ever had.

Not much of a falls but behind the old mill where the water wheel is you will find a small yet picturesque waterfall that actually feeds the waterwheel.
The last time we were there we came across a couple who decided that would be a great place to get married so they had an officiant and a couple witnesses right there.
My wife and I did a quick little impromptu wedding shoot and emailed the couple a download link to either download the pictures for free or order prints.
Turned into a few hundred dollars in print sales across the family.
It actually was enough in the end to pay for the expenses of the trip.
Even so it's a good little spot to shoot.

If you like country music and good food ....go to Dollywood a nice little amusement park owned by Dolly Pardon and if you just like good food go to "The Peddler" an excellent steak restaurant in Gatlinburg.

Several dinner / entertainment venues such as Dixie Stampede (also owned by Dolly) and Hatfield and McCoys are fun.

Riding the cable car up to "Ober Gatlinburg" would be some good photo opportunities.

Has no one mentioned Dolly World? I've been there a couple of times, and it's definitely worth a visit. My last time there, Dolly drove through n a convertible.

If you’re into amusement parks, then Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg will give you ample amusements, and a few decent eateries. That area in the peak leaf peeping season is, at times, almost one big traffic jam and, when you find parking, you’ll have to do a lot of walking to see the sights.

For nature, the drive from the Sugarlands Visitor Center over towards Townsend along the Little River will provide plenty of photo ops of the River, some rapids and shallow falls, and Autumn color. At the intersection with Hwy73, stay left and continue on to Cades Cove on Laurel Creek Rd. The drive around Cades Cove will be crowded and slow, but there may be photo ops for bear, deer, turkey, and pastoral scenery in fall colors. You could also leave Gatlinburg on US441 toward Cherokee and catch some spectacular scenery at the several pull-offs on the way. When you descend toward Cherokee you can stop at the Mountain Farm Museum. The restored farmstead is a walk-around exhibition but it is on level ground so shouldn’t present a problem. As you drive on to Cherokee, you may be lucky to see some elk, possibly a sizable herd, grazing in the open grassy areas or along the roadsides. If you’re in a gambling mood and can put up with the crowds, drop in at Harrah’s casino on the East side of Cherokee.

I’ve not visited any of the falls in the area but check these out on-line to see a description of the access trails: Cataract Falls, Laurel Falls, Baskins Creek Falls, Grotto Falls and Rainbow Falls.

Enjoy your trip!

Stan
