The only camera I would trust in truly wet conditions is one designed for going underwater. As far as I'm concerned, "Weather-sealed" doesn't mean a thing. If you return a soaked weather-sealed camera under warranty, they're not going to repair it.

Guess you never shot with a Nikon before. I've spent entire days at base of 300ft waterfall where the mist continuously soaks the camera, cloud forrest so thick with clouds and mist you choke on the water running down the back of your throat from breathing and the camera gets soaked. Also have been caught in down pours with only my body to protect the camera and it becomes soaked as well. Have experienced this with the D600 and D850 and never a problem. Weather sealed means weather sealed. I talked to Sony Tech/warranty rep yesterday and they stated under normal conditions which INCLUDE rain the product is covered, but not covered if dropped into water. Since Nikon comes with a Full 5yr warranty and Sony only comes with 1yr I've decided to go ahead with purchase but buy additional 3yr warranty. Thanks

Short story short.
First of all the Z9 compares to the Sony a9, NOT the Sony a1, no 30 frames per second RAW on the Nikon, speed defines wildlife photographers and the Z9 does not come close.
Second, the current Nikon 600 4 weighs almost double the new Sony 600 f4, which I own, and shoot hand held, because it is center weighted and has a revolutionary rail focusing system which is far superior to what Nikon currently is using. The Sony professional line of camera's are weather sealed. But as I have stated many times, I do not take my equipment out in the rain. But saying that, I shot my Sony a9 with the Sony 200-600 in Costa Rica and I had no issues at all, that said, I still wrapped a plastic bag several times about the lens and camera to insulate it from the environment. Again, no issues.
Good luck and keep on shooting until the end.

Yes I used the Nikon Z9 as it's the only Nikon camera that comes close to the A1 as comparison. And yes, the frame rate separates the true wildlife cameras, reason for the switch. And yeah I hope they have to pry a camera out of my dead cold hands when it's my time to go... I just need do this why I still can......Thanks

Have heard back from Mark S. a few hours ago. He used his Sony equipment in CR last year for a few weeks and didn't have any problems. He also shoots a lot locally on the beaches in Florida and so far no problems. Haven't heard back from Steve P. or other bloggers I've contacted yet. Steve just did an extensive review on the A1 but no mention of weather resistance. I did notice paint chipping off of his A1 camera after only a few months use. As far as the techs are concerned they feel Nikon is better weather sealed than Sony models. I will be in Continuously damp, misty and sometimes rainy conditions for several months at a time. As a Nikon user I always felt protected from the weather. Either a camera is weather sealed or not. I have not Viewed the actual warranty and Sony did mention lite rain conditions being covered and that's all that really matters in my case. I'll just keep the equipment covered as needed so I can get the most out of it.......

I don’t know about the Z9 but when he did the tear down of the Z7 he said it was the best built camera he’d seen and the weathersealing was outstanding. I would imagine they’d bring the same to the Z9.

The Sony A1 has the latest weathersealing and dust sealing . I own A1, A7RIV, A7SIII and they are as well weathersealed as any of my Nikon and Canon DSLRs I have used for decades in my pro career. I shoot in all conditions around the world and never have to worry about my A1 in bad weather.

Associated Press the worldwide news service has ditched its Canon DSLRs and switched all its staff photographers and videographers worldwide to exclusively Sony gear . AP shooters have to keep shooting in the worst conditions worldwide and they aren't worried about their A1, A9II, A7SIII, A7RIV holding up to any professional use in all weather.

UHH is very Nikon and Canon biased among its members, always has been, so you will see lots of posts touting that only Nikon and Canon have professional weathersealing. Well that just isn't true anymore. Get your A1 and rest assured you will be fine in bad weather.

My Olympus OMD EM1.2 got covered in mud and I washed it off with a hose, survived that no problem. Don't know about other cameras but I wouldn't do that to my Sony A7R2 it's too much like a film camera.

Not anymore. Disparaging third-party lenses like Tamron and Sigma is sooo 20th century.
