This stunt can go wrong in so many ways that even attempting to run it will be problematic right from the start.
The major one is the potential reaction by bystanders and off-duty police officers. Add to this group the passer-by traffic (and on duty police officers). There are also the potential of post-stunt actions such as from the property owners in the form of trespass and the like. Further, the charges of public disorder by the police jurisdiction(s).
I recall the "Smile, you're on Candid Camera" stunt which involved two in prison wear sharing the cuffs. A sheriff's deputy pulled out his gun on them. The SYoCC staff had to follow the squad car to the local police lockup, to convince the cops that it was just a stunt. So, it has happened. If I remember correctly, it took Funt to verify that it was indeed a stunt.
I can see a line of flashing blue lights escorting the bus to the nearest hoosegow. And the fines growing in the eyes of the magistrate.
You realize this is a joke, right?

And there will be an idiot out there that will take this 'joke' to the bitter end. Too many social media networks that buy this stuff. (Remember "Funniest Home Videos" and the like.)
For the record, I do not find people getting hurt as being funny.
Wow, people take stuff way to seriously here.
It does sound like a funny prank, but after thinking about it for a minute, and as mentioned in other comments, could turn out dangerous for the participants and the public.
Somebody has way too much time on their hands! In this day and age to think of something like this and think that it would be funny?
That would be a good way for a self-proclaimed hero to end up in jail for a long time. Shooting at unarmed “prisoners” as they run away is not a reason for deadly force. Totally irresponsible!

And the joke is lost on this one ^^^^^^^^^
As an aside, I wouldn't "step" in and do anything. I carry for self defense and the protection of my own people. We are not law enforcement and should act like it.
An excellent reminder of why we carry.

Somebody's liable to get shot. This prank could turn violent if a concealed gun carrier stepped in and tried to halt the running people.
You are absolutely right, says a former Police Officer.

I worked in Federal Prisons for over 20 years, don't want to go back, even in a prank. OTOH, I can see and appreciate the humor in that.
Ok, I think some folks are taking this a bit too seriously. This is intended as a joke. The OP isn’t really suggesting anyone do this. You didn’t get it! Got it?😳

The OP may have thought this as a joke, but I doubt that everyone else did. Got it?

Got it. But I didn’t say “everyone else”, I said “some folks”…big difference. It’s hard for me to believe that anyone…especially those familiar with jerry’s posts…would think he was proposing that anyone should actually attempt this.
