As the technical advisor on the movie E.T., I had to talk Steven Spielberg out of using a device for analyzing results from a Wilson Cloud Chamber for the medical scene. A cloud chamber is used for studying subatomic particles, having nothing to do with E.T.'s illness. Unfortunately many directors don't hire technical advisors, giving us things to chuckle over.
