On this morning, starting out early and with temps at freezing, we headed to the upper end of Gothic Road. Arriving near the pass, we waited for the sun to light up the mountaintops, all the while chilled to the bone. We knew the heater in the vehicle was working, yet we were getting a cold draft none the less. Upon going to the tailgate to get our equipment out, we realized the back glass was down!! None of our previous rental cars had ever had a glass that could be rolled down, only a tailgate that had to be raised. I don't think my fingers ever warmed up that morning--at least, that's the excuse I'll use if all my images aren't tack sharp, as I really didn't want to linger in the cold any longer than it took to get the shot! But I did have fun watching for any beaver ponds that might offer up some reflections of the sunlit mountaintops.
On this morning, starting out early and with temps... (show quote)

Excellent set. Well done.

Glad you like that one, Karin--I felt like a contortionist trying to get it because it was at the top edge of a bank and I had no where to kneel behind it, lol.

I too like the one with the tree carcass in the foreground. I always enjoy sharp foreground objects in landscape pics. I hope to add a 14mm ultra-wide to my arsenal in the next month or two for just that purpose.

In the last pic it looks like you may have not only captured a beaver lodge, but also a beaver. It's a bit too fuzzy (the prospective beaver) to be able to tell for sure. But a great shot nonetheless.

Actually, I was trying to figure out a way to get the grove of aspen captured through the eye of the needle (tree root) but couldn't get to a safe position. Some shots are a compromise between getting the unique and keeping your bones intact, lol. I looked at the image again on the big monitor but didn't see what you saw as a beaver. Where in the image should I look? (P.S. Looks like we might share a year of birth...1948?)

Beautiful, and well worth the exposure to the cold. The open window is too funny.

I don't know about the fingers but the images are all tack sharp and beautiful. The cow is funny; do they apreciate the view as we do?

Very nice images! I recall fishing Lake James in the fall when I lived in South Carolina and you have some amazing views in your own backyard! Strong images, great work.
