I have decided after much research that I am going to purchase this lens. Back in August it went on sale for $795 or $100 off. Do you think there is any chance of that happening again due to shortages of everything or should I just go ahead and order one. I will be getting one, what I am interested in is do you think there is any chance of it going on sale again.
In a month, it may be less at Best Buy. Black Friday might be worth waiting for.

The Z 24-200mm is still on back order, since the demand exceeds the supply I wouldn’t expect a discount.

That is what I was thinking. That is why I asked.
Amazon has 8 International Models in stock for $920. My guess is the $896.95 U.S. will remain the selling price for a while. You may want to order a U.S. one now. When it comes in (B&H estimate 2-4 weeks) you can buy it or cancel the order.
I do own and like it.

You could also check out used - Used Photo Pro (Roberts Camera) has one in Mint- condition for $658.
This is only my opinion, it all depends on how soon you need the lens. Sales by all manufacturers are made often as a means of increasing profits. It is very possible Nikon could decide making another sale during Black Friday. Used or refurb products are often available from Nikon with nice discounts.
As I said, your decision to buy will depend on how fast you need the lens.
Grandpaw, I shoot a Nikon Z6 and the S-mount lenses are a perfect complement designed specifically for the Z system.
Until third-party vendors start producing the S-mount lenses, Nikon has the major source for lenses with very little incentive...other than to get them out initially to create product demand...to lower their prices. Also, Nikon (like many other manufactures) control their price-points via vendor agreements which is why prices are quite similar regardless of who they are purchased from and any that are lower should be suspect. Thus, I doubt that there will be any discounted prices on this lens unless inventory slows due to over-production and lack of consumer interest.

Actually “S mount” is a misnomer. All lenses for the Z cameras have the Z mount. Most of them are “S line” lenses, meaning they are the top line Z mount lenses. The S line lenses are all primes or zooms that are less than 3x. This lens at 24-200 is closer to 8x. They generally have more robust weathersealing and a brass mount while the non-S lenses have an aluminum mount. That’s why my 24-70 f/4 was more expensive than my 24-200. All that being said the 24-200 is still an excellent lens and stays on my Z7 most of the time. I’m very happy with it.

"Back order" seems to depend on where you look. This past summer I looked everywhere (on-line and at local camera retailers) for a Z6 II. Even put a deposit down at a local camera store but then found that I could get it within a week from Best Buy. Got my deposit back and they still couldn't tell me when they would get even one in stock – I guess size (buying power) matters.
My advice: keep looking.

Same here. I checked all the local stores and the usual online sources and nobody had it except Best Buy. Three days later I also had it.
Checked at B&H Camera, my favorite place to buy photography equipment from, and they said it looked liked they would get a shipment next week. I used my Payboo card and saved $62.79 on taxes. Also includes a UV filter. for $896.95 I have a trip coming up in a couple of weeks and was hoping to have it before then.
