Newly released Voigtlander 24mm, 40mm, and 90mm lenses for Nikon F

Voigtlander recently announced several more retro lenses. The 90mm is on preorder and it looks like the 24mm and 40mm are available.

I have the 58mm and am thinking about the 40mm, so I'd appreciate hearing of your experience with any of these lenses. There are very few reviews out there just now.

Images are of the three newest releases.

TIA

I have used the 40mm Ultron for several years (it's been around for over a decade). It's a very nice lens.

I have been using the Voigtlander Ultron 40mm f/2 SLII S and Voigtlander Nocton 58mm f/1.4 SLII S on my Df for years, especially the 40mm because I like that focal length. The 90mm does not interest me, but I will probably order the 28mm (not 24mm). Obviously I can’t speak to the 28mm, but if you like your 58mm you will be very happy with the 40mm.

To their credit, they look like my old Nikkor H lenses. I like the recessed front element; wished Nikon still did this.

I do love my 58mm f1.4 Nokton. It loves the dark and the light and color and is pretty magical wide open.

I wonder how the lens design philosophy differs for the different lens families: Nokton, Skopar, Ultron, etc. I know the Nokton 58mm has a LOT of character (chromatic aberration, bokeh, vignetting, barreldistortion) whereas the new 90mm Skopar is supposed to have negligible CA).

The one you are showing is the newer model 40mm and it is GREAT. Especially I love the hard stop for infinity, just crank it and it's pure> My favorite most used lens and I have many.

There is some interesting information at two of the Voigtländer distributors - https://www.voigtlaender.de/lenses/?lang=en and https://www.mysticfocus.in/cameralenses (prices in rupees) - where you can learn about the peculiar names (Skopar, Heliar, Ultron, etc.).

All of the companies that make lenses have some interesting history. But 260 years is hard to beat, "Founded in 1756, Voigtländer is the oldest name in the camera industry"

Every time I see these lenses, they evoke the memories of shooting with a nikkormat ftn, and Nikon f photomic ftn. Those lenses look so much like the Nikon lenses from the 70’s, which were built so well, that most are still available and in perfect working condition. Good times!!
Of course these new lenses, have better coatings, construction and optical formulae. (I presume).
Enjoy them and happy shooting.

The lenses are great! They are made by Cosina. Cosina made some of very fine lenses and cameras not in their name.

They really are.

I have a 40mm Ultron with the FX mount and 40 and 75mm Nokton with the Leica M mount. Two stops down, where I normally use them, they are just as good as any of my Zeiss or Leica lenses.

I have a similar set in EF mount, without the Nikonesque cosmetics. If the formula for the f:2.8 is the same as the earlier f:3.5, I expect you’ll love these lenses.

Again, my set is slightly different:
20/3.5, 40/2.0, and 90/3.5 and I’m unsure if that matters very much optically.

Personally, as a big fan of the 40 I’m really glad to have a 20 instead of 28. For me, there’s not enough spread from 28 to 40. The 28 would be better paired with the 58 or the 50.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Although it goes without saying, it still deserves repeating: Voigtlander lenses are terrific. Some are IQ geek’s dreams and others mimic vintage characteristics, but it seems all are near perfect at their intended purposes. I’ve got several, from 15 to 200mm, modern and “neo classic” types mixed.
