I was waken up early in the morning by strange noises, I run to my backyard with my camera and there were a group of beautiful sand hill cranes have a loud conversation, they were there for few minutes and then they decided to go and wake up another one of my neighbors.

When we lived in West Palm Beach we had them all over. Wonderful creatures and now Ted Nugent want to have a hunting season to kill them. He evidently doesn't know they mate for life.

There are a number of states where hunting these cranes is legal. Hunters say they "taste like turkey" ("so go buy a turkey" I say....) A number of hunted bird species mate for life.

We had a crane get hit by a car a few years ago near where we live. Its mate stood at the edge of the road by the dead bird's body for four days. Terribly sad to see.

Well, we have a quorum so lets discuss going from garden to garden and waking up these folks!

I certainly don't understand the desire to shoot them. What is their reasoning for such a terrible act?

One of my fave subjects. Nice shots.

I don't know why anyone would want to shoot them. They are so big and slow there's really no sport in it. And like the guy said, if it tastes like turkey then go buy a turkey.
